Calling all artists:
1) Applications for the important shows begin to be due in Setember, 2011 through January, 2012. And then it can be over for the big shows.
2) I am asking all experienced artists in the major categories to state your expertise and then which shows you consider the top ten. THEN, which shows YOU are actually applying to show in 2012. Thanks for sharing!!
3) We know we need to get professional pictures taken NOW, our booth shot MUST include all three walls (NO one inside and no signs)........there's lot's of advice out there. on AFI. Go to Larry Berman's website if you need more:
Thanks,
Linda

A friend asked me to check into CountrySide Village art fair in Omaha and I see it is mentioned - as anyone else any feedback?
This will be wildly unpopular, but I have seen the Cherry Creek Art Festival going downhill recently. I don't even know if they look at jewelers work for judging, The weather is always horrible, hot and usually heavy afternoon rains/wind. Most of my jewelry friends are not happy with the show, with several saying its the worst show they have ever done and will not be back, I read reviews of sculptors and painters doing well, but jewelry sales were OK. Plus, the word is out among Colorado artists that they really would rather not have a Colorado artist not apply. Of course they will disavow that, but just check how many Colorado artists are in there.
I'll average out the last several years for mine....some of them were not so good this year, but have a strong history, so I'll overlook it. My category is jewelry.
Grand Cities Art Festival - Grand Forks, ND (little gem in god-forsaken country)
Stone Arch - Minneapolis, MN
Rockbrook Village Art Fair - Omaha, NE
Countryside Village Art Fair - Omaha, NE
ArtFest Midwest - Des Moines, IA
They aren't the "big players" but they have done exceptionally well for me, and artists are treated decently at all of them. I don't travel as far as some of you (GF is the farthest I've gone so far, about 8 hours drive).
A question we need to seriously consider is which shows are worth driving 1000-3000 miles to do? We live in the Seattle area and try to stay within 1000 miles of home to keep travel expenses reasonable. For those of you with your suggestions on which shows should be in the top 10, how many of those are worth driving more than 1000 miles for? Just curious if the list change as you consider the expense / time of travel.

Northern Virginia Festival of the Arts
Wish list
Winter Park
Up until this year I did all Florida shows with the exception of Northern Virginia. This coming year I will be venturing out more. I am planning 6 shows in Florida but it may be my last year of doing so. I'm giving Winter Park one more chance to let me in.
Except for Northern Virginia all of these shows were, by necessity, within a five hour drive when I lived in Florida.
