Let me just say from the get go so if you dont want to read my whole review you dont have to, this is a poorly run show in a pretty good location and I did well-ish, but i'm still fairly unhappy with the way they handle things.

First of all I show up friday AM to set up, its drizzling and freezing (not their fault) and I saw on the map they  emailed a few days prior to the event where I was located and just googled the restaurant I was in front of and drove right up to my spot to unload. No  one was set up to even talk to you for check in.

Luckily my neighbors had already set up and they told me where to go check in because a woman had been walking around earlier saying it. I never saw her. it said on the email you have 30 minutes to unload then you have to move your car, but i was in a section of 4 artists and on the corner so I just kept my RV there the whole time while i set up for like 3 hours.

Then the show was from 5-9 pm that evening.  I didnt bring lights even though it said to because I dont have any and didnt feel like purchasing them so I was only open from like 5-7 probably, but there was NO ONE  out because it was like 40 degrees, no joking. it got to 37 that night.

So anyways a band went on at 6:30 and fortunately for me they were right in front of my booth. yay! So I can yell at my customers and have them not hear me.  So everyone in my row called and complained and they said they turned the volume down, they did not.

Then the next day I had a good sales day, the weather was pretty good, they had like elementary-high school dance teams doing routines on the stage right in front of my booth but atleast that wasnt too loud.  I sold one big original and one big framed aluminum print and lots of smaller stuff.  then at 630 the music came on again, We all complained, they did nothing and I didnt have lights so I didnt care and I was cold so I left.

Sunday  they had bands playing ALL FREAKIN DAY and it was just as loud and once again we all complained and the woman who was i guess sort of in charge of the day to day stuff, Rosemary, told me that it was an acceptable volume and that if i wanted to do the show again I would just need to be placed in a diffferent spot.  That pissed me up insanely, because she refused to walk over to my booth with me to try and have that conversation there.

It was a reasonable volume for a concert, yes, not an art show. there is no reason for us to pay our booth fees and have them spend those booth fees to pay bands to make it harder for us to sell artwork.

So I hope I am never geographically tempted to do this show again because I'm pissed at the way we were treated in regards to the music.

I only spoke with one artist who had done this show before, everyone else was first time, usually a bad sign. And I have a feeling I may have had one of the best shows, no one else that I spoke with seemed happy. and there is absolutely NO WHERE NEAR 80,000 patrons like Zapp says.  I'd say less than 5,000 comfortably.

  • I've heard horror stories about this show for the last several years here on AFI. It sounds like they've actually improved their act from previous years, from horrific incompetence to a mere FUBARed show ;-)

  • kansas city missouri

    • Thank you.

      • Not so "eastern" after all.

  • Sure wish you eastern folks would put a city and state on these shows you all know about. Maybe its just a western thing about knowing where you are at all the time to avoid getting lost. No chance I will ever go to an eastern show but it is useful to know where you guys are picking bummers.

    • I agree -- I have no idea where this show is, but have to agree with Robert, I'm not going there ;)

  • Great review, making a note to my self to never, never, ever go to this show.
