The 52nd Annual Ocean View Art Show is next month, October 11 & 12, in Norfolk, VA. So far this year over 100 artists have entered. I'd like to know how many AFI members will be there. The show owes some of it's success to Art Fair Insiders, and I'd like to thank this forum for all the advice and help it has given us. Hopefully, I've incorporated most of your advice into the show!
A few years ago we were considered a "small local show" - words from our local papers art editor. That may have made us more determined to prove her wrong! Now we are one of the few shows that is growing each year. The park is big enough that we can fit 120-130 spaces. This year we have 109 accounted for already, and I know a couple applications were mailed yesterday (our deadline). Add to this count 7-8 artists in our members tent, which is set up for new members and members that don't have a tent. We will also have a bunch of student artists (60+ last year).
One of the things that helps make our show is the members of the Chesapeake Bay Art Association. As artists, we try to keep the prices low, and we also try to give you "walk around room". I measure 12 x 15 for most booth spaces so you don't feel all crammed in.
The proceeds from this show go to an Art Scholarship Fund. This is a practice started back in the mid 60s when John Tenney auctioned off one of his paintings to provide scholarship money for local high school students.
Again, let me know if you are an AFI member and participating in the Ocean View Art Show.
