This is not a big weekend for art fairs. The calendar that started with a May 31-June 1 had lots of shows moving their dates, leaving this one relatively free with artists searching for good ones. The big one is the Milwaukee's Lakefront Art Festival, very high quality and hard to get into. Will you be there?

Want to know more about it? Here is a video I made while visiting it last year: http://youtu.be/NYIDpIpjQho

I'm actually setting up a tent at our local Strawberry Festival (its been many years since I've put up a tent, hope I remember how) and will be manning the Branch County Democrats and talking politics instead of art.

What about you? What's up?

  • Staying home for one of the few times since the start of May. I'll be matting, framing, printing new work, and repairing some damaged work. At a recent show, the next door
Neighbor got careless and jumped the curb when backing up and backed into two boxes of framed 24X36 pieces. Four pieces had broken glass. Also doing some shooting for some new ideas. Just getting ready for Crosby Hardens in Toledo at the end of the month.
  • I am halfway through my summer show season. The next ones are Steamboat Springs, CO July 12-13 followed by Winter Park, CO July 19-20. Both are favorites for fun and $. I finished unloading truck from KS show and now it is rebuild belt inventory, special orders from last four shows, three trick saddles ( two which need to be done by end of July), antique restorations, fill in inventory with some canteens, holsters and wallets, ....... . I'll get most but not everything done eventually. For the next couple weeks it's going to be gardening and maintenance work in the morning, studio work in the afternoon and evening.
    • Richard, did you see that Steamboat is trying to put in another show in mid-August? They host some kind of big festival for the first two weeks of August and the last weekend of that will be a new outdoor fine arts show. And in conjunction with that, they're sponsoring a juried gallery type show that promises to award BIG prize money. The event is called ART STEAMBOAT and the listing was on Call for Entry dot org.

      • Barrie, This is the Steamboat chamber/council's link to the event: http://www.steamboat-chamber.com/signature-events/all-arts-festival. In the past it has been for the performing arts. This is a quote from the chamber's site: "New for 2014, a juried art show will showcase the works of top-tier 2-D artists in a five state area including Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, and a $10,000 prize to the winning artist". They also say that it has closed for 2014, but November is the call for 2015.

      • I do Art in the Park put on by local arts council. It's their 40th year. I don't know anything about the one you mentioned. I'll have to do some digging.
  • It is our first time Connie. Any tips??

    • If you've never done an Amdur show before, Pauline, just pay attention and stay on your toes. It is a very professional organization and they work hard. It is a challenging environment for setting up so plan ahead. I think you can search on this site for some tips.

We've just had a lot of rain. Hope the park is not saturated ... take your boots ;)

      • Thanks Connie!! It has been very rainy...we have been in WI (Door Co) and watching the weather. Have a great weekend.

  • Applied to the LFOA but got rejected so taking time off for little vacation and to create more product for next show in July.

    • Have you ever attended the LFOA, Robert? Hope you aren't feeling badly that you were rejected from this show. I believe it is the hardest one in the country to get into. They honor prizewinners for several years and have an artist advisory committee who get reinvited, and it isn't that large a show, making it harder to make the cut.
