Whew! That was one big weekend in Florida earlier this week wasn't it? Reports are trickling in ... thanks to the reporters, Geoff Coe, John Leben, Barry Bernstein, Nels Johnson, ---

For this weekend, I believe we all take a deep breath and go to the B schedule. That's fine too. All I know about is the Rotary Show in South Miami and Howard Alan's Coconut Point Show ... will you be there?

South Miami Rotary Show: http://www.themiamihurricane.com/2016/02/17/south-miami-rotary-art-festival-brings-art-exhibits-to-sunset-place/

Coconut Point in Florida also: http://www.news-press.com/story/entertainment/2016/02/17/coconut-point-estero-art-festival-mall-anniversary/80401532/

Me? A belated Christmas gathering in Cincinnati and we'll be having 65 degree weather! Guess that's why you wait that long to have the celebration.

(But BIG week ahead getting ready for next weekend's Garage Sale Art Fair in Kalamazoo. I haven't done a show in years and am getting nervous. I'll be selling photos and an amazing collection of art fair equipment: lighting systems, frames, mat cutter, hand trucks, print bins, shrink wrap machine ... can't even begin to get it all together.)

What about you? Big or small plans?

  • I'm doing a bit of everything. My apps for 5 summer shows are sent off and I am waiting for replies. I got over a 2- day bug thanks to Jean's chicken soup - it works. Trick saddles: I started group of 4. One is for stock and one tree is not here yet. Three are fancy white quilted ones and the stock one will be plain natural leather. One goes to Australia. Belts: I need to do about 8(?) belts in redwood finish for inventory. Folios : I have one white custom order and 4 for inventory. Restoration: I got started rebuilding an heirloom saddle from the Navajo Nation, Gallup, NM. My apprentice, who is also a highly skilled cabinet maker, rebuilt the tree over the summer. Also in the mix is an early 20th century Miles City, MT saddle I picked up on eBay to rebuild and sell. Roman pads: This is a custom order with handholds on one pad. The foot pads are black with pink stitching. In Roman riding, the rider is standing with one foot on each of two horses. I'm not sure how she plans to use the handholds but others say they can keep their act moving without having to change horses. Lots of "engineering" goes into these and I started making some templates to speed up repititive stuff. Straps: I'm building straps for the trick saddles and custom orders. I'm doing a dark brown breast collar with pink metallic letters for a little girl trick rider about 6-7 in way remote SD. She will pick it up in March on her way to clinic south of here. She sent me a picture of herself doing a trick on her horse - her note made my day. It's time to kick the dog and cat off the bed and get ready to go to church. That's all.
  • My shows don't start for a couple of weeks and I am using this time to continue to prepare for the shows. More creations....I can never have too much inventory, van maintenance..changing my oil and filters, changing the air in the tires, cleaning and organizing my workshop so I can mess it up again.

Carol and I drove to Lafayette to stock up on some nice woods and stopped in Henderson to pass a good time, check out a nice local crafts marketplace, eat some great lunch and buy some cracklin.

All in all a very enjoyable few days...

  • We are having a couple of couples over Friday evening, one couple is bringing their 2 very well behaved kids. The other couple happens to have an empty nest.

Saturday dd and I are going crafting at our church with some friends.  Not sure what I'll work on yet.

Saturday evening we may go meet some car club friends at a local spot to eat.  However, we have been going so much lately and also eating out so much lately that I just want to crawl under a rock and eat some dirt.  LOL
