Overall I think Zapp is great but there is one issue that drives me nuts. I research shows year round. Zapp wipes their slate clean after a show has taken place, as if it does not exist. Often I hear about a show that I would consider applying to after the show has taken place, i.e. Jackson, WY. Go to Zapp, and there is nothing. If I were a promoter with a show in May I would think I was getting the short end of the stick compared to the person with a show in September who gets longer exposure. I have emailed this complaint to Zapp with no response. Enlighten me if you understand why they do this.

I think that is one of the better features, meaning the search engine for the "participating shows." It's easy to find shows in a certain area, at a certain time. Makes it easy to figure out which shows to apply on any given weekend.
You can also make them your favorites to quickly eliminate the ones you have no interest in. There is also the archive which lets you see what images you used for a show, so you don't send the same ones to the same show two years in a row. Some shows don't like that.
Don't they wipe it clean after the deadline? not after the show? Seems to me that is the way it works. Fwiw, Dick, although it is not nearly as huge a list as Zapp, at CallsforArtists.com I always leave the shows up until after the show -- because it is good to see them in the context of the other shows on that weekend.
The length of time that the show is on the Zapp site depends entirely on how early that show wants to put up its application. Then, of course, it goes down after the deadline. The shows that close six months before the show occurs do lose that exposure. You're right.
I'm sure you're also accessing the JAS shows and the EntryThingy.com list is pretty big too, usually for smaller more local shows, but that should also fit your niche.
They wipe it clean after the show date. Then you have to look for it on the Internet and hope the have their information there rather than a link to Zapp. I will look at the others. Thanks and thanks for the Gift.

Hi Richard, I'm a little late to this party, but hopefully you find this info helpful! It sounds like you may be using the Apply to Shows tab, which only shows you events with open applications. The Participating Shows button will give you all events which license ZAPP, for the most part, and can be found here: http://www.zapplication.org/shows.phtml
There is a brief window of time when events are building and updating their new prospectuses that the old event prospectus may not appear on the site. This is usually a very small window of a few days or a few weeks.
Also, I wanted to let you know that we are making improvements to the Favorites feature so that in the near future, you can mark an event as a favorite and subsequent events (2013, 2014, etc.) will also show up as the new events appear.
Thanks for your feedback. I'll pass your thoughts along to the rest of my team.
Took a quick look at the sites mentioned. Interesting how shows listed are concentrated in the east, taper off across the Midwest, hit the Rocky Mountain Void, then don't pick up until the west coast. Why? Population demographics? Might be an interesting question for podcast discussion with promoters. Break time is over, have to get back to work!
