Got a rejection the other day to Castle Rock and was very confused by it. In the email, it had the scores from the 8 judges and they were all over the place (5-2 range on an assumed 5 point scale). I then looked at last years artists on the website and counted 30 photographers out of the 178. Way too saturated.

I did have a chance to visit the paid visitor entry fee show last year and was not impressed by a majority of the photographers (many that I see when I visit lower end shows). There were even 2 "photographers" at the show that are the mass production "photographers" (reps).

If I would have looked at the 30/178 count and paid attention to all the signs before I applied, I would not have. I think that if I would have gotten in, it would have been a "not worth it" weekend.

Anyone else get a savior rejection notification?

  • Steve, Greater Castle Rock Art Guild (GCRAG) has organized a show at the Court House June 8-9 as an alternative to the September CR show put on by the CofC. The latter used to be at the Court House, is expensive and charges a gate. I'm doing the GCRAG show just to see how it goes. Colorado shows.
  • Things happen for a reason, don't they! I haven't had a rejection that saved me per say, but I did cancel a show that after receiving their welcome letter and other info sounded like the judging was fixed, the show was too big and full of low end junk. I was lucky to get into another show the same weekend and am doing it instead. Hopefully a preemptive save for me.
