  • I did the Blue Lotus shows in Georgetown and La Canter in 2011. I wrote reviews of both but can't find them on the site. Search site for "La Cantera, TX" and my comments about them will come up.
  • Thanks Peggy, any suggestions on which shows to consider in either TX or OK in Oct/Nov?  Also, any insight into which ones to absolutely avoid?
    • I have had success at Deep Ellum and Edom Art shows. I've only been doing shows for one year, so I haven't fine-tuned my show selection yet. An artist from OK told me that there were only 2 good shows in OK, the OKFine Arts and I can't remember the second one. Basically OK is not a great market for artists.
      • Our experience of Oklahoma has been different...we have done Paseo and Tulsa International Mayfest both of which were in our top 5 shows ever (in 16 years of doing shows).

      • Thanks Peggy.  Always a challenge to figure out which shows are right for a particular artist.  Of course, now that we have sort of figured out what works for us in our region, I feel like we're starting over as we explore other areas.  I think we might stick to Arizona this fall and try Texas next spring, maybe we'll see you "down the road" somewhere.

    • If the Frisco shows (near Dallas/Ft. Worth) are still in business, I'd avoid them.  The area is over-mortgaged and underpopulated for any size of show (I did the first one several years ago and at that one and subsequent shows, many artists didn't make their expenses).

Generally - and I could be wrong in some circumstances - shows that are put on by promoters in shopping centers might be seen by the public as just another problem to get through between the parking lot and the stores.

But, I would really like to know if others have found some shopping center shows to be profitable - worth driving a day or so to get to.

Check with the ZAPP listings and with Sunshine Artist magazine for shows in the fall in OK/TX

  • Peggy - did you do this show last year?  If so how did it go?  Is is worth the booth fee?  We're jewelry artists located in the Seattle area but seriously thinking about an October road trip to TX/OK, planning to do a few shows and visit family that we have in Dallas and OKC.
    • I didn't do it and haven't been able to find out anything about it.
