  • Thanks I will check these out.  I live in South Carolina.  My work is very colorful.

    • Hi Jennifer,

I couldn't agree more with Larry. When reading your query, that show was the first to "pop" into my head. When I used to exhibit my paintings (fairly abstract, think colorful Stuart Davis) at art shows, I'd exhibited there and had some success. Less so, at the Bruce Museum, but I only exhibited there once and the weather wasn't too great...my interpretation was that my work was too large for the smaller rooms of CT (fact or fiction...who knows?). In any case, both of these are good shows to try. As Connie mentioned, Paradise City has great art but I live in MA and I think we are experiencing a bit of malaise these days....I never exhibited there but some of my friends have and lost money due to expenses being so high.

My best advice through my own experience is to try Bethesda (and Armonk), as my sales were very good, as were my neighbors, both of whom had abstract painting. I would also check out a thread on this site that had to do with Alexandria and Arlington....sounded quite promising. Good Luck!

      • Right, I missed out on remembering Bethesda, Colleen. Also, ARTS in Rockville, a relatively new show, has had good reviews for its affluent customer base. And what about Reston? the Northern Virginia Festival of the Arts.

  • I've heard good things about the Bruce Museum show in Connecticut in the fall, small and classy. You might also check out the Paradise City shows in Northampton, MA. There is very nice work there, though fine crafts are the sales leaders, some people with 2D work do well.

Depending on where you live you might also explore the Downeast shows in the Bay Harbor (ME) area -- very upscale demographics.

  • Armonk is one of the best shows in the country for large expensive artwork.
