I have a question concerning input re the Montaulk Labour Day Art on the Green Show. Can anyone tell me if it is a really good show from the artist's point of view, as it doew require  a bit of a monetary outlay. Thank to all. Ashley

  • Hi All,Thanks for your input. If I do the show I will definitely  write a review. I have a Display Systems set up and and a 10 x 10  Shelter Logic  white tent. This weekend I am doing  the Ocean City Board Walk Show in Oceaqn City NJ. will  give a review of it when it is all over.  A review of a show is a good starting point if it  is an honest appraisal. Thanks again.
    • AH, Ocean City.

I have a number of friends who travel from New England for that show and always do well. One has done it for over 8 years and never has done under 5K. But she has a following and people come to the show looking for her.

Others have said it's the worst show they've ever done. So I guess everything is subjective as to what the people want, and whether or not you have it.

  • LOL Chris.  I had this same discussion yesterday with a non-artist who doesn't understand why I don't have a "regular" income.  "BUT you do all those shows!"  I should have used the word crapshoot to describe them.

Welcome "back" Ashley.  Don't know anything about the show you are asking about, but there is a ton of information here that should help you with reworking your display and booth from jewelry to painting.

  • All shows today are a crapshoot.

And shows have changed a lot since the 80s as I was doing them back then too.

Do you have a canopy if it's outdoors? Is your display attractive enough to bring customers into the booth?  All work is subjective so nobody can say if it will be what the people want or not.

But what's going to happen if you bomb at the show? Are your legs gonna fall off?  I doubt it. All you will be out is the money you spent. But the location is in a tourist area so there's a good chance you'll at least break even unless the promoter doesn't do any advertising or the people don't want what you're offering.

  • Wish I could help you out, Ashley -- I don't know anything about this show. I was hoping someone else would chime in.
  • Hi Ashley, did you go to their website yet to see how much it costs? Have you already juried for this event?
    • Hi Connie, firstly sorry for the typos  yesterday. My fingers were sticking to the   keys and I did not  know how to go in and fix them once they were published.. I am so used to spell check. The cost is over $300 and what with lodging  it will be an investment. From thier latest email there seems to be a spot for me. So I am in a quaandery.
