For some reason, every time I use MIE 8 to post a lengthy reply or thread (usually after 12 lines), the regular "scroll" function does not work. For example, on IE8.0, if you click "Reply" to my post, a faint yellow text box appears where you can type your reply. If the reply goes beyond a certaing amount of lines (beyond the text box margins) what should ordinarily happen is that the box would automatically scroll down the page as you continue typoing and adding sentences. On IE8, the scroll function gets "stuck" and you can no longer see what you are typing (the text even "shakes").
This does not happen on Firefox nor before I upgraded to MIE8. Anybody there to direct this question to for troubleshooting?
Thanks

After you cut and paste 14 or more lines, did you try to manually "RETURN" and type additional lines. The "scroll bar" lever works fine. The issue I am seeing is when I attempt to type after the 14th or so line ... Each word I type causes the "box" to roll up towards the beginning (essentially making the line I am typing invisible to my view).
Also, I noticed that this forum is run by a company called "NING" ... Perhaps this is a thread and/or issue I should forward to them because it is their programming which created this website. I am sure they would want to know about any issues with their service. Does anyone know the tech support or contact information for NING?
Thanks

I just updated to the same version of IE as you have. I do see it behaving a little differently, but it is still working OK. I added 5 paragraphs from Lorum Ipsum and the scroll bar was OK. This may be more of a Java or Apex issue than an IE issue.

Hello,
On IE8 just go to "help" on the upper bar and select "About Internet Explorer". You will see what version you currently have. I have "8.0.6001.18828". Also, unless if one has a real "classic" the computer should not be an issue. That being said, I also have an Intel Duo Core, 8GIG EDO Memory, 640GIG HD etc. ... In other words, plenty of computer power to rule out this quirk on a simple forum/website.
As for the other tips about using Firefox/Opera or typing the report on a different format and cutting and pasting, although they are all valid tips, they are not very functional. Luckily, I don;t use this forum often (if it were google or gmail, THEN I would have an issue ... then again, if it were Google, then their staff would fix the problem in a jiffy!). So, just as a suggestion, to whomever is in charge of this service/website, they may want to look into a potential conflict as I previously described (type a 14 line paragraph reply or more and, if the same glitch is shared, you should see what I am experiencing)..
Also, I must comment on the number of people that are so apathetic about Microsoft. Microsoft only gets the bad press about viruses because they are the #1 OS/browser in the world (by far .. at least 80% of all users). The only reason they are so plagued with press of viruses is because any hacker (whether for fun or for malicious intent) would chose the most widely used OS/browser to implement his/her skills (for the most impact). That being said, because Microsoft is the leader, it is the company with the most resources, talent, staff to combat any future threat. It's not that the Apples or Firefoxes in the world don't get viruses or glitches (they do!). It's just because the vast majority of hackers chose to go after the most prevalent OS in the world. But, when a problem does happen to a small company, the effect is much greater due to the smaller resources.
Well, I hope it is looked into. If not, then it will be just one of those annoying quirks I have to find a way around.
Thank you

I tried this on MIE 8 and put in 20+ lines with no issues. I'm working with a dual core, 64-bit, PC. Lots of memory, 512 mb graphics, etc. Not sure if that makes any difference, or not. Also, not sure how up to date my IE is (I use Firefox primarily), but I'll run the MS updater to be sure.

I have MIE 8 at home, but not work. When I get a chance I will check out the scroll bar issue. Probably not tonight or tomorrow, since I have meetings both nights, but hopefully early Saturday. My primary browser is Firefox, but I have several other browsers, and different IE versions, to test websites.
The "backbone" of Art Fair Insiders is run by Ning.Com. Ning has thousands of forums. If I see an issue here, I will try one of the other forums.
I've never experienced this, but have NEVER used IE. I prefer Opera, which is not 100% functional on this site. Firefox is though. But what I now do with all forums is compose my posts in Notepad (plain text editor) and copy and paste into the forum reply box. It's especially useful if I want to control how much of a post I'm replying to.
Use a different browser. I use mozilla firefox and never had a problem. I just find "those microsoft products" to be a pain and targets for viruses. There are other browsers, just see what happens.

Thanks. But I actually like Microsoft. Besides, I need to use the most popular browser that is used by the majority of surfers (80%, I believe) when I troubleshoot my own site. It just seems like a no brainer for whomever handles tech problems on this site to fix any new issue with the most widely used browser in the world. If it was an Opera or Chrome issue then I would understand ... but MIE8???
Yes, I can use Firefox, Safari, Opera and many others ... But it would be so nice to use my preferred browser. I hope the tech person gets this message and is aware of the issue. I know that if someone were to contact me about a browser issue on my website, I would not respond "just use another browser" ... I would fix the problem ASAP.
