Greetings! Has anyone done Festival in the Park in Charlotte, NC? I saw one brief review of the 2011 show, and that's all.

I did a show in Charlotte on Mother's Day weekend, and while I did quite well, attendance was not good, and I sort of had the feeling that the city was not a very arts-supportive place. That was just one show, and an indoor show at that, on one weekend.

I'd appreciate anyone's insight and experience.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi, Carrie. I moved to Charlotte in September of 2012. I did Kings Drive Art Walk in the Spring and am doing Festival in the Park in Sepember. I have not ever done it before. I think the spring show would have been great if the weather had been better. There was rain on Sat. and they actually asked us to close down around 4:30 or 5. It was supposed to go until 8. I was very disappointed, because I was very busy and my sales were really good. Then they decided to cancel the show for Sunday because of rain. It wasn't a torrential downpour. I was surprised, because I have never participated in a show that was called due to rain, and I have been in some very bad weather shows. I still covered my expenses; but I did not have hotel, gas, etc., like many did. I felt very bad for all those artists who came long distances and were sent home. I had some follow up sales after the show as well, which was good. Which show did you do Mother's Day weekend? I turned down Lake Eden Art Fest this spring to do a local show in Charlotte that weekend, and was quite disappointed in how it went; made me sorry I didn't do LEAF.
  • I have done both the fall and spring Paragon Charlotte shows.  The fall one was okay for me and the spring one was good for me.  I'm planning on doing the spring one again.
