I haven't done a show for 6 years. And will be diving back in at the CPFA in July. I used to use a nurit machine for credit cards, I guess technology has changed a bit and I am told it is now useless due to the way it connected to cellular signals. What is the "standard" or best way people are processing cards now? I haven't joined the apple iphone world yet, but I might if it's the best way. Any advice appreciated.

I agree with BB&T. They have been great to work with. I did just get a Square Up account, but think I'll keep the BB&T for awhile longer as a backup. I've got two big shows back to back coming up, and will keep BB&T until after they are over.
BTW, I use BB&T for everything, car, house, personal, and business. I've been a customer there for almost 40 years. Having a local relationship is important in many different respects, including financial advice.
Some of the Nurits still work. Ask your provider. I have an Exadigm machine that I bought from 1NB that works well, has a built in printer, and usually gets a cel signal. There are two shows where it sometimes craps out: St. James Court, and Crosby Gardens in Toledo.
If you go iPhone or other cel swiper, you also need a way to print a receipt for your customer. Not every customer will want their credit card slip emailed. I run into folks who don't have email, yes, in this day and age! Imagine that!
I signed up with both Square and Intuit GoPayment for my iPad so when I hit my initial limit on Square, I can move over to Intuit. Which reminds me I need to contact Square to start at a higher than $1000 limit. My first show is in three weeks to test them out.

I use gopayments.com No contract and low per swipe fees. Check them out. They show the listing of phones they are compatible with and that list grows. If the free card swiper doesn't work with your phone it is easy to enter the information with the downloaded app.
My current smart phone doesn't work with the swiper and am due to upgrade in June so I have been talking to different people about either the droid or the iphone. The majority of those I have talked to said to go with the iphone.
There has been a lot of previous discussion on here about accepting credit cards. You can go back and read the previous posts, but in the end you have to make the decision as to what will work best for you.
