Christmas decorations for a Christmas Show!

Auuuggghhh! Ok so I signed up for a inside coluseum (I know I'm doomed) Christmas show. They want all the booths to be chrismas decorated. I don't want my booth to look like a five and dime. On top of that I have a very thought-out decor of black and white small patterns with splashes of bright pink. This is going to look like well back to the five and dime. I decided not to paythe extra over a hundred bucks for electricity since my cc machine is wireless. I have been trying to find some pink christmas stuff but to no avail. I am thinking of spraypainting some silver and white stuff pink and using that. So stick with my decor and look distinctive or go with the flow?

  • The apples were attractive! and I was wondering about the carpet...the backdrop was perfect. Nice look.

Well, the funny thing was that people kept wanting to buy the red apples I was using for a splash of color on the table. I think I would have made more money selling those. You can't see the floor in the shot but I did get a red carpet too. Oh, and I went with red because I went on their website and saw the backgrounds from last year. So that was what they provided.

  • I love it, Robin! The Santa hat is a very nice touch -- and it tells customers to come in and have some fun. The display looks terrific. Did you rent the red and white drape from the coliseum?

I like that it's not kitschy.
  • Long days at the show! I will look for a different Christmas show next year. I The booths were expensive for the space and everything that could go wrong did go wrong. But you have to get out there and try.

  • Good luck, Robin. Remember, you are a Rock Star in your booth!

I set up some tomorrow and and finish friday before the show. I will take pics! I decided on a smaller take with red accents replacing the pink. I would have spent more but these days you don't know if you will make booth so I am using what I can scrounge up, but taking a very light hand with it.

  • Hi Robin,

Just wondering if you have done this show yet and hoping you would show us a booth pic?
  • Target sold pink trees a couple of years ago. I have one, but stopped using it as it was too cool and distracted customers. If you used one- you could hang some earrings on it, though.

I would love to see what you finally come up with.
  • If you're worried about looking like a dime store - instead think of how fine jewelry stores decorate for christmas - keep it simple and elegant. A few faux packages in elegant wrapping, and maybe a little bit of sparkle - I would definately keep it understated. Just enough to remind them that they have someone special to buy for.
  • Nice ideas, Michelle. It sounds really pretty. The idea is to make your booth a special boutique that draws people in -- I can see you have put a lot of thought into your style, Robin. The more inviting you can make it the better. Here's my latest idea...it looks like you use your canopy for your booth walls. Right? I'd be so tempted to hit some fabric stores and see if you can get long lengths of fabric that you could hook to the top of the canopy and add color to your walls -

Here's a pic of my Christmas booth display at a show I did 2 weeks ago. Those who did do something decorative for the holiday definitely got noticed more. There is something subliminal with decorating up your booth - not going over board of course. I say this because it will get people thinking more about gifts for others than gifts for themselves upon first sight of your booth. I do get a lot of people thinking how item A isn't great, they don't like it. Then when I chime in and say, " you know people who buy this also use it for (insert alternative function)..." and their eyes light up and realize a person on their gift list would like this despite their own personal tastes. In your case this could make a good case for you, one who makes and sells jewelry - where you can focus customers attention looking nice for those Christmas parties, something simple yet elegant for holiday gatherings with friends or family or for dressing up a little nicer for church on Sunday/Christmas eve or whatever holiday the customer celebrates. Anything to bring attention to these gift giving ideas kinda start with a seed - something subliminal to get them thinking oh yeah, I do need to get my mom something that I can put in her stocking...

Coordinating colors. I have found some odd colored items both at Target for Christmas as well as Michael's Craft Stores. I have an "island room" in my house and do my best to have a blue Christmas tree with tropical decorations with greens, teal, yellows and a touch of pink. But the best treasure for finding Christmas decorations are the antique shops - the old fashioned retro decorations are incredible and super affordable, depending on the stores of course. Using some silver tinsel and some old fashioned Christmas balls with funky colors can truly make jewelry pop - very different from the traditional red bows and green swags others use. Perhaps the display theme could be like a throw back to a glitz and glamor era with just enough splash (color) to consider it a Christmas theme. Lights wouldn't need to be involved, simple cost - a vine or two of silver tinsel mixed with some affordable retro Christmas balls and you have a booth decorated for Christmas. What do you think?
