The Art Awards Show in Virginia Beach has been postponed due to a severe weather warning. 4 to 10 inches of snow is predicted for the area. 2 inches cripples this area! The new proposed date is February 20 & 21 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. I'm assuming that because of the date change, there will be some cancellations, so some spots may open up.

Refunds were issued to those artists who couldn't make the show and didn't want to apply the fee to another show. All refunds have gone out. The money from booths ALL went into advertising and facilities costs, neither of which is cheap.
There was nothing posted on the website or in the contract about what happens if the show is canceled or rescheduled. There were some emails sent listing the options we have to pick from if we cannot attend the show, this would have been nice to see on the contract, application, or even website. I definitely do not agree that a vote on a reschedule date is professional at all. Not to mention the $50.00 asked of the artist's that can make the date.
$330.00 for a 10x10 , Multiplied by at least 100 artist =$33,000. If the vote was 5 to 1 to move the show, I think they can afford a partial refund which would benefit both parties in the long run.
I understand where you are coming from but let me tell you...you would have lost your $330.00 regardless and then some for hotel, food, etc. if they went ahead with the show. Va. Beach was shut down by that storm and not one soul would have been in that convention center...I for one am grateful they have rescheduled because it would have been a total loss otherwise. I am sorry the new date doesn't work for you...maybe some of Pauline's suggestions will work for you. The weather in Hampton Roads is a total crap shoot any time of the year unfortunatley and no show is going to refund your money when the weather does not cooperate. I think the promoters have given the artists a lot of options to try and make things right...It was a tough call.
Not uncommon no refund due to bad weather when doing art shows especially in Hampton Roads. It is unpredicable there. It might be a good idea to find a replacement since they are willing to work with you that way. Suggest you try Craigs List for Hampton Roads and if you are local go to D'Art center with a flyer to hand out. Maybe even contact a few organizations to see if they can post an email to members. They now post emails quicker then snail mail newsletters these days. Also in here, topic area post specs or FB. You never know. Also 4 new art galleries at Pembrooke Mall you might want to give flyer. Good Luck.
