Is anyone familiar with this new show that is taking place in Va. Beach, VA Jan. 30 & 31?
This is the first year for the show and it is an effort to create a "winter months" craft show that is indoors promoting to an affluent demographic. The booth fee is pretty steep at $295.00 and I am wondering if this is a big gamble as an artist for a first year show. They also recently extended the jury deadline from Oct. 31st to Nov. 15th which makes me a little wary...Any thoughts?

I would wait on this one. Feedback from last year was not good in either VB or Richmond. It is a newbie and probably needs time to develop and draw in the crowds.
I have heard discussion about this amoung a few CBAA members. Our current VP, Wayne Potrafka, is familiar with the organizers. Some of the CBAA members, myself included, will be volunteering as booth sitters, etc. One of the goals of the event, from what I understand, is to be different than the Christmas events at the same location. This event is more designed to cater to the Art enthusiasts, not the craft or gift buyers. I believe Wayne is a member of this forum, so you may try sending him a message. If I get time tonight, and remember, I'll email him and ask him to put his 2 cents on this discussion:-)

Thanks Dave...you are not going to apply?

I thought about applying, but I'm not ready for that level of show and the higher fee. I need to have more high end pictures done before I do shows of that level. Right now a lot of my sales are note cards and 8 x 10 matted prints. I can't sell enough of them to make a $300 booth fee! I want to move to that next level in 2010.
I thought about participating but have reservations right after Xmas. I mentioned to them to hold it indoors in July when its boiling hot here in VA, the tourists are here and where July has nothing for art shows that I know of in Hampton Roads. There is an Xmas craft/art show before the holidays at the Pavillion you might check out for next year. Never participated in that one either. Several years ago I did manage to do a holiday craft/art show at the Pavillion and that was not something I would return to. Some buy/sell booths snuck in there and management did nothing. But the one you are asking about is strickly art. For the Pavillion, the price is not bad compared to other shows there. I'd like to know where that affluent crowd is during the summer shows because I haven't seem them much the last couple years. I'm not a big gambler. My guess with the extention is they do not have enough artist yet. Your guess is as good as mine. Its a trial and error experience.
