Would like opinion about Northern Calif Shows

Am thinking of doing an art show in N. Calif  around Walnut Creek and would like to know if anyone has had any experience up there.   Told the economy is depressed up there.  But this is suppose to be one of the best shows in the east bay area.   Would have to drive 700+ miles one way.  Figure the way gas keeps going up it will be at least 4.00 a gallon by june in calif.  They say they get 90,000 people at the show. Has anyone done the show or shows in that area.   thanks

  • We'll be in the Founder's Court, booth 39, right outside of the McCaw Exhibition Hall.
  • sounds like the ut. arts festival.  that one goes on for 4 days and the hours are grueling   11 am to 11 pm everyday  thurs thru sun.  if i come  up there i would come up to dance  not sell my art work.    i am into contra dancing and a lot of my friends come up to do the dances up there.   where is your booth will mention it to a friend of mine who will be up there this weekend.
  • Folk Life is a cultural festival featuring music and dance, however they have 3 sections of Art booths.  It's beena  good show for us the last 2 years and since we're local we don't have the travel expense. It is a hard show to do, 4 very long days.

  • Folk life i thought was a dance festival that quite a few of my friends are going to this weekend.  will have to look into that maybe next year.  glad i could be of some assistance.
  • Steve - if the Bumbershoot you are speaking about is the one at the Seattle Center, I'm not sure it would be worth your time.  We do Folk Life and it's a good local show for us, mostly handcrafted with a few buy/sell slipping in.  I've heard Bumbershoot is much more commercial, attracts a different crowd than Folk Lilfe that is much more of a "party crowd".  Haven't been able to get into Salem yet, we're having new pictures taken for our 2012 jury pics so maybe next year.  I'll look into Swiss Days in UT, thanks for the tip.

  • Ruth,  i know that half moon bay has been a good show.   i got accepted to it but cancelled after a friend of mine said it was not worth the drive and i live in az.   he did it last year did around 1500 on sat and it rained on sunday so it was a one day show.   salem, oregon is a good show.  there is bumbershoot,  another state to try is ut.  swiss days on labor day in slc is suppose to be a good show.   there is park city and ut arts festival but hard to get into.   also was told that mt. view with calif artists could be a good show.   then there is always san franciso.  never heard of monrovia  show.
  • Hi Joe - was just searching for various shows and came across this thread. We live in the Seattle area and are considering longer road trips for 2012 in the spring and fall, tired of doing shows in rain.

Any input on shows in October including: Monrovia Celebrate the Arts, Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival or Campbell Oktoberfest?

Pacific Fine Arts is not accepting any new jewelry artstis so that eliminates several potential shows for us.

BTW, I saw your comment that your summer home is in Vancouver WA, any good shows in that city?  I've never been able to find anything that looked promising.

  • Yes to

Pacific fine arts does Los Altos and it's their toughest show to get into. They buried about a month ago.

Craftmaster was great when Lee Spiegal did it, but I only go with Festivalnet now.
  • do you  know who runs the los altos show in july,  will take you advise about Calif artists, and joining festivalnet.com   have you ever gotten craftmaster the magazine.   and what are you doing in july in ca

  • I live in Florida in the winter and Vancouver, Washington in the summer. I'll be doing several shows in Cali in July and then upper midwest shows in the fall. We're actually going to spend more time west next year.
