Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival initial reports

Friday morning thousands of people filled the park and streets of Winter Park to view the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival. It was well covered by the local media. Here is an article from the Orlando Sentinel, a good overview that includes many photos to really give you the flavor of the event and an idea of the work exhibited: Winter Park Draws Large Crowds

We are looking forward to reports on this past weekend's top show. Here are a few more images:

Fine quilting by Ginger O'Neil from St. Louis, MO

Pastels by Beth Crowder

Glass by Earl James from Cleveland, Ohio. These pieces have Earl's "signature" look all over them, but I didn't recognize the orange piece as one of his and missed attributing this work to Earl earlier.

Here is another article I found in the NewsChief.com (?) about the show in Central Park, but I think this was in Winter Haven -- the works looks wonderful. What is this? another nice-looking show right near Winter Park on the same weekend? Can anyone fill me in on this?

  • The wonderful quilts are Ginger O'Neil's from St. Louis
  • Winter Haven has been around a long time. It is always held the same weekend as Winter Park. It's held on the village square and is well run. There is good award money but sales are hard to come by. Quality is high as many who didn't make the cut at Winter Park go here. When I did it, I noticed many poeple mentioned going to both shows during the weekend as they are not too far apart. I look elsewhere when I don't get Winter Park.
  • My experiance was that although Sat. had large crowds there wasn't a lot of buying energy. Sunday after afternoon was a complete washout. Parts of the show turned into lakes. Cleared up for teardown which was a relief. Most people i talked to did well on Friday with a fair amount of high end sales. It was a warm weekend which has been a rarity in central florida this winter and people came out. The orlando area has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country so I think all in all the show was well attended and most artists made money. The show committee is well organized, friendly and responsive. The artist party also had plenty of above average food and beer and wine which went down well after a long day. And i could commute and sleep in my own bed. Wish they all were like Winter park.
  • The Glass is Earl James from Cleveland
