We were in White Plains, NY two weeks ago. We set up in the steady but not violent rain ... a first for us in the opening of our 2nd year of summer fairs. Got everything up - dripped our way through the hot day. In retrospect, perhaps our wet clothes kept us cooler during the day. I design spiritual messages - which we place onto sterling silver (sometimes with gold plate overlay) and etched glass. We got into the show under glass but told them we would not do it without being able to show the jewelry (we applied under jewelry). That was agreed.
Surprise! Surprise! We won a blue ribbon at the show -- for glass. Very surprising and delighted - having never won anything in my life. I guess being a 'doodlist' has finally paid off! Later on Sunday, we had thunderstorms. We stayed in the tent -- Jay had done a wonderful job with the glass display it barely moved in the wind - and keeping tent to the ground. A mom and her daughter were walking in the rain - we signaled them to come in to stay dry. Our lucky day -- they loved the designs and bought close to $700 of product - it made our terrible show into a more plausible one with that buy.

Your act of goodness was rewarded! Good for you! And a blue ribbon too! Congrats!
Congratulations on the award win Deborah and just goes to show being nice to everyone can pay off in potential sales!
I did Armonk for almost 30 years until about 2005.
You can apply if you understand the layout and can work around it's limitations.
The show is on grass inside a dirt running track that was donated to the community by IBM. You can drive up to your booth on set up or breakdown, depending on where all the other artists that get there before you park. Like any other show. You can also request an outer corner so you so you're closer to the dirt road.
There is handicap parking with a shuttle but the artist parking is closer and in a paved parking lot in front of the running track about thirty feet or so from that end of the show.
Most artists don't move their vehicles once they set up because they stay at the La Quinta Inn (I think it's now a La Quinta, used to be a Ramada Inn) in the complex about 3/4 of a mile away and either walk or get rides with other artists.

do you do armonk? we were told not to apply because it's not accessible and jay uses a wheelchair. yup, what year is this? oh, yeah 2012. and the ada has been around -- more than 20 years. and that's what we we were told. mmm... makes you want to think.
I wonder what happens to an art show over thirty years.

The last time I did this show was around 1982 or 1983. At that time I was living in Queens doing mall shows, so the White Plains show was really appealing to me, as was the Bedford, Armonk and Mystic Seaport art shows. Sorry that this isn't helpful, but I don't think the White Plains show has come up on any of the forums more than one other time over the past ten years.
Back then it was a decent show, usually worth about $2500, which felt really good after averaging about $1200 at mall shows.

we are 'on the fence' about coming back -- the maybe stage -- lots of interest; but just like everywhere else, buyers are not so much. we'll see if anything materializes with all the card taking.
Hi, Deborah! Great post. Congrats on the blue ribbon. Could you tell me the exact name and dates of this show?
