  i have a banner with company name it is 12 x 2  i attach with large clips onto a lightdome.   the letters are blue on white and it works great .    I have been at shows and have seen people from 30 ft away come over because of the sign.  the bigger the better.   was next to a person this weekend with easy up and his banner was half my size and he hooked it with bungy cords.  my feeling if you got the space use it

  But the answer depends on what kind of canopy, how you plan on attaching it, how much wind resistance the banner will have, the size of the message and whether it can be seen in 2 feet vs. 2.5 feet.
