Apparently there was a Wells St. show in Chicago in June and there is another one scheduled for July. Does anyone know anything about these shows? We were looking for a filler for our September show and wonder if it would be worth it. It seems I heard the setup was a nightmare.
Hi. I live in chicago and went to the show as a spectator. My observations were 1. it was cold outside 2. although I was there at night artists we sitting rather than busy & selling ( not sure what it was like during the day for selling & crowds) 3. the festival is about the music (the headliner band from the 80s was the Flock of Sea Gulls), wine & drinking 4. people were drunk 5. I said to friend "remind me not to apply or do this show" Just thought I would share.
I believe it's the second year for the fall festival. I know it hasn't been around 9 years. It's smaller than the summer show -- the show's web page says it goes between Schiller St and North Ave. The June show stretches another quarter mile down to Division. The area between Schiller and North has more bars than the section further south. I've done the June Wells Street show several times -- it's a huge party in the summer, but it can be good for sales. September can be warm, or it can rain. Just like any other month in Chicago.
It's a total unknown to me. Personally, I feel the big show in June is a lot of work for average dollars. The Fall show might be a little more laid back, and attract more art buyers versus party boys. Either way, the set-up is going to be the same. And it's the same weekend as the Lakeview East show, a more laid back, more professionally run venue.
For those needing more information, try contacting the show. Here's the link to Special Events Management.

Bill, here's this year's review. Wells Street -- What Happened This Year
Do a search in the blog section for "Wells Street", and you'll come up with a few more.
