I just spent 1.5 hours trying to be compliant with the tax situation from Bayou City. Be sure you are well medicated before attempting to deal with these people. They have a mandatory system where if you fail to report any sales on a 1/4ly basis, you will be fined $52! One and a half hours getting set up only to have the built in calculator not work. Wow. My guess is that a lot of artists get the number, and cancel the account and Texas doesn't get their taxes?

Many years ago I was going to do a show in PA. They wanted my PA bank account # as I was not allowed to take PA sales tax out of the state! I was living in VA at the time! Or remember when you would do one show in NC and they would send out a payment book for you to file every month!
Florida has a similar sales tax system. You can be fined $50 for submitting your quarterly form, even if you don't owe any sales tax. Texas is arcane, but Arizona is the worst.
I have a Texas sales tax license, and since I only do one or two shows a year there, only file yearly. They switched my frequency a year or two ago. But you have to call them to have them add additional municipalities to the form for you. As I recall, you can't do it on the site. Really a pain in the backend.
wow.
I didn't send in the proper form with my payment to Wisconsin once and they fined me $650. I couldn't find the form on their jumble of a web site so I just sent the check with a note. I thought the fine was a very rude way to deal with a "customer". They could have just emailed me the form. It was a real hassle to get them to forgive the fine. That was my first and last show in Wisconsin.
I live in Texas and pay sales tax quarterly. It is simple if done online. File and pay by credit card, PayPal, bank draft, or send in a check.
Yes, they only accept Mastercard...? I don't know why. I am in a Dallas show this weekend that actually sent me an email saying that the tax office is requiring me to send in proof of my tax license before the show. Is this common in other states? I have never had this happen to me yet at a Texas show.
There is no form, only Internet instructions in the package, oh and when you do go to pay they don't' take Visa...
Things a getting stuffer with all dept of revenue. My advice is to send a check after the show. If they give you the form at the show you should file the day after the show. Best sample for me is Ann Arbor shows.
