Hope I am not too late in getting this out to all of you doi8871858074?profile=originalng Gasparilla this weekend.  In Ybor City where I live is a great restaurant that does $2 martinis from 11 am-7pm daily.  They also do 50% off all entree prices from 4-7 pm daily.  The restaurant is called Berninis.  It is one block from my house on 17th street and 7th avenue, which is the main drag in Ybor.

Jason Fernandez the owner has been running this recession-fighter deal for almost two years now.  Any drink made with Finlandia vodka is only $2 from 11am-7pm daily.  It can be a martini, a screwdriver, a Black Russian, if Finlandia is in it it is only $2.

This is a primo high end Italian restaurant that does everything perfect and yummy.  So, all entrees and pastas are half price from 4-7 pm daily.

For instance, you can get a veal chop for $14 instead of $28.  A filet would be $14, a pork ossobuco is cheaper than that.  You can't go wrong with this place, and they take reservations.

Just thought this might be a great place for some of you.  Ellen and I eat lunch there three times a week.

Oh, by the way, I just got a call to do the show this weekend.  Gee no golf tomorrow.  Boo hoo.

  • I'll back Nels on Berninis!  I went into there, not knowing a thing about dining in Ybor City.  It was a quiet and warm afternoon.  I liked the wine list, had a glass, a second one.  Decided food is a good thing on an empty stomache.  Had excellent appetizers, then a meal.  It was still a quiet afternoon, so the barkeep and I chatted about a lot of stuff.  Then HE bought me a glass of wine!  Well, when this happens, the tip goes way up, as it should.

Do not pass this place up if you're doing Gasaparilla, or being touristy in Ybor City, or whatever.  Maybe give Nels a jingle and see if he'll join you there!

  • We will have to have a "foodie fest" - Travis vs. Nels. Location? Indianapolis, St. Joe, AA?? or maybe the two of you in Fort Worth. I'll have to fly in to moderate.
  • Travis, I'll be sure to stop by.   I remember your Mexico posts and they were appetizing.  Wish I could recommend restaurants in Ft Lauderdale but we don't eat there, too many good places in Miami to make the drive I guess.  (art festivals-that is a whole other story)  Pretty breezy weather predicted but no rain till late Sunday.  riptides should keep people off the beach and at the festival.
  • Geri - I tried to send you a message, but we re not "friends".  We will be at Las Olas, booth #33 in front of the Riverside Hotel.  (Steven*David Jewelry)  Do stop by and say "Hi".  I love your informative posts.  If you search my old posts, you will find that I am AS focused on food as Nels.  My Mexico Crafts post will definitely make you hungry.
  • Hey Nels

Tell the nice folks how you really got into the show.

             ..just kidding.

  • Nels thanks for the heads up on the specials, I haven't eaten there in years and I only live five minutes away. Perhaps we can have a local artist happy hour one day. Good luck with Gasparilla this weekend, I'll be doing Howard Alans Venice show, a great show for me.
  • We'll give it a try, maybe see you there Nels.
  • I've been emailing them all week letting them know I am close by and available.

Nels, I didn't know you lived in Ybor.  Very cool!!

  • Thanks Geri.  We gotta do sushi at the place I blogged about last summer near Wilbat.
  • You write the only posts that leave my mouth watering.  Wish I lived close enough to indulge.

Have a fantastic show this weekend.  I'll think of you as I cruise through Las Olas on Saturday.
