Strange side hobbies?

Okay. Earlier in the year I snapped this photo of my car to the Crosby Festival of the Arts in Toledo, Ohio. Notice something?8869116280?profile=original

Yes, my ham radio license plate. I have been an amateur radio operator for 25 years now - first getting my Novice license when I was 16 years old. I now have the highest class license of Amateur Extra.

Plus I am a Skywarn certified spotter. Something that comes in handy at art fairs. I can listen and report to the local weather net to hear the storms progress. That is kind of tricky with taking items down from your tent to get ready for the impending doom.

So do you have any other strange hobbies that kind fit in and kind do not fit in with the art fair circuit?

  • Scott, I used to hold a First Class Radiotelephone commercial license back in the day, starting in 1967 and held it until the licenses were reorganized. I never did learn Morse code or would have picked up an amateur license and the Radiotelegraph Second Class. I still have my Heathkit GR-64 shortwave radio I built when still in high school, and have a modern short wave set. Neither has been turned on in years. I spent some time working at WLKY-TV in Louisville back when Diane Sawyer was the weather girl, and another part time gig was working at a radio communication station taking to river barge towboats. Nothing like working 11-7 with about a dozen unsquelched receivers hissing at you all night long >8-O. Too bad I wasn't doing art shows back then as that would have a perfect time to cut mattes and mount prints :-)

  • Funny Kay. lol  Every crowd needs someone to fill the need.

Scott, I have a little book of odd names that I have found in the newspaper or where ever I see them.  For example, there is a grave stone in our local cemetery and the guy's name is
    C. U. Fry.  Other strange names that I have found in the newspaper have been Tissue Lilly, Dorr Bell, Magic Hunter, Wolfgang Pisall, and a real Dr. Frankenstein in Battle Creek, Michigan.

  • Awesome Kay!
