The patrons that came / came to buy/ Easy set -up/ break- down// I saw BIG $$$$ items sold and many pleased happy artists // My ceramic neighbor almost sold out- my jeweler neighbor was always busy/the leather, & clothing across were busy// my sales were just fine// Thanks Richard for saving this event for us artists and Sarasota- those that didn't apply-- you missed it///
So why didn't more of our fellow artists (not jewelers) apply? Richard kept a great level of quality at his show- alot of great jewelry also- HE did NOT accept questionable or crap just to fill spaces// I know that he would have loved to have had 145 artists -so it goes- I know of 3-d artists selling $9,000 pieces and more- My sales were fine, the jewelers next to me never stopped selling-the ceramic artist on my other side almost sold out her sculptures- attendence could have been more but they bought- We will be back with a larger booth and more sales-- as always no matter what show- some do good some don't-- Fair Winds
It was the one run by Island Art Assoc. in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. They say they are correcting the lack of advertising for next year. This past fall it was in October.
Thanks, Joyce, this is just the kind of info I need. I'm a jewelry/silversmith and i had this show on my list for next year to look into. I will defintely make a note about it. This happens more often than not with some kinds of shows. One of the fall shows I did had about 12% jewelry which I appreciated.
Did you know out of 90 artists exhibiting there were 44 jewelers???? How fair is that? Yes, other mediums made money but as a jeweler most did not make enough for expenses. Richard had trouble filling the show and at the end accepted anyone without. If artists want this show to succeed, get your fellow artists to apply. I know alot of jewelers who won't be back with this kind of unbalance.
Yes indeed- the only show with this name- there are Howard Allen,,and Richard Sullivan"s shows in the area also; they both do a good job in Sarasota-I just hope that oversatuation does not exist- they are the only game in town as the city does not sponser a show(as far as I know).
Bill, are you referring to the one at the convention center on Dec. 2-4? There are so many in Sarasota and with the Allen shows, too, I want to be sure I'm looking into the right one for my calendar next year. Thanks.
By the by, How did Space Coast go this year 2010? I decided to hang with family. My friends who did the St.Augustine Art Assoc. show over Thanksgiving did "O.K." but it doesn't draw big crowds or big money. One friend sold one expensive painting and it made her weekend, but you can't count on that happening. My friends who did the Downtown Gainesville show in November said the same thing. Glad I did Halifax.

Would you share what show that was?
I have sent my comments to Richard at the Sarasota show. But no response yet.
