Prolific Chicago

I've spent so much time and space on here asking advise and questions over the past couple of weeks I feel guilty for even being on here.  However, I'm hoping you will indulge one more until at least the middle of August!

I'm doing the Frankfort Fall Festival in Frankfort, IL over Labor Day Weekend.  I'm trying to find one-two other decent shows in the area to tie in with it in order to lower my travel expenses.  Sort of a two-for-one sort of deal.

As my Post Title implies, there are so many shows going on in the Chicago area, it's difficult to choose - especially when one isn't terribly familiar with them.  I've briefly looked at 3-4 and if anyone has any experience, insight, suggestions on one or all of the following, it would be very helpful and most appeciated.

One is the Cedarhurst Craft Fair in Mt. Vernon, Sept. 10-11; second is The Festival of the Vine in Geneva on the same date;  third is the Glen Ellyn Arts Festival the weekend before Labor Day.  I've also considered the Amdur show in Downers Grove but, though not expensive compared to most, its a bit more pricey than the others and I'm wondering if it would be considered to be that much better than the others.

FYI, my medium is Wood with price points from $38.00 to $195.00 and I think it would fall more in the Fine Crafts Category.  Some of the shows place me in Functional Art.  So, if all you good people will help guide me through this maze, I promise I won't bother you again before the date mentioned above.  And, thank you for your help.

  • Amy, I glad you heard from them - I will be googling a map to "Lake Ellyn Park".  I will see you ladies at the show.  Let's hope for good weather and a buyer crowd.

  • I nagged directly and got a response today.  Booth numbers at check-in.  I am checking in at 4:00 Friday and plan to attend the party afterward.  It is at Lake Ellyn Park so now i am good to go.
  • It's Lake Ellyn.   Amy, did you get an email from them?  I didn't, he said that he'd sent it out last week.  I'm still trying to see what's gone wrong with my email.  I'll look for you both, ladies!  Here's to a great show!!!!
  • I've heard that they give you your booth number when you set up.  I heard from them Aug. 14th because I requested a Friday set up and they wanted to know time I want to set up.   Friday set up is between 11am to 5pm.  They also sent me an invitation to their artist party held on Friday evening.  I can't make it due to other plans.  If you need directions, you should contact the guy in charge.  His phone number is listed on their website and his a very nice guy.  I plan on googling it to see if I can find it - otherwise I will call him too.  It's held near a lake - can't think on the name off the top of my head.  See you at the show.
  • Has anyone heard from Glen Ellyn? It's this weekend, I don't have a booth number or directions.
  • I did Downers Grove a couple years before Amy took it over and it was then starting to gain some momentum and I was surprised at some of the quality.  It's a nice area and I would do it again but that is the same weekend as Lakeview and I hit a different market at that show.  I am back in the area for West End/LaGrange that does well for me (and is 4 mins from my house!) since my customer base is there and I also drive traffic to a store in the town next door that carries my work.
  • I did the Downers Grove show last year , the first year that Amy took it over , and had a good show,,,good enough that I am going back this year .  I had several people tell me that they didn't realize this show was so nice ,high quality ,,,,,,because they hadn't been to it in a couple years,,(,before Amy took it over),,,so were pleasantly surprised.    I think this show will gain respect ,and numbers , as people in the area see that it's a nice show....and not whatever it use to be ....whatever that was.

I am also doing Frankfort,,,,and have done that show for maybe 5 years.....that's always been a good show for me, but declining,,,,as i think everyone in the area has bought from me by now. Will have to be replacing it soon. The whole community seems to support this show,,,so lots of people.

  • Lake Geneva is the playground for the rich and famous for Chicago. Mostly summer homes (condos). I only know one person who does the show and they keep returning but I do not have any first hand experience.
  • Rich, I'm doing the "Lake Geneva Fine Art Festival" this weekend.  It's the one in Iron Park - This will be my first time doing the show.  Do you know anything about this show??  Looks like a lot of good artists are doing it.
  • I live about 20 minutes form festival of the vine and I have attend the show a couple of times to talk with vendors and I have not received any good comments from those I have spoke with.
