Pro Panels vs. Canvas Display Panels

I have searched the site for discussion of this topic but can't find any.  I do Mixed Media 2D collage paintings.  I am planning to purchase a Show Off tent soon.  I prefer the look of ProPanels for display but have been advised that the Show Off canvas display walls are easier to put up.  There is possibility that I may have to do some shows alone.  What are your thoughts on the ProPanels vs. the canvas panels?  Does art show as well on the canvas?  Does it really make a difference?  I am considering the light gray canvas, as close to ProPanels gray as possible.  Do the colored canvas walls perform equally with white for display?

  • Judy, that's a very good point about the indoor shows.  I do plan to have some open studio shows, so the ProPanels would be able to do double duty.  Thanks for sharing!

  • I have the 2-piece Pro-Panels, am short & can easily setup/tear down. I like the Pro-Panels for indoor shows too. Even at my studio where one wall is painted brick, I just configure the panels in from of it for a clean look at Studio Open House. Plus for indoor shows I can use inexpensive elbow lamps in the top opening of the panels for my lighting.

  • Sorry, typo mistake, it is trimline not timeline.

  • Very good tip, JoAnne.  I am a seamstress and I had converted a nesting Z rack into a panel (I don't like the footing though).  I used vinyl to replace the mesh, but dislike the sewing process because the vinyl is very stiff and hard to turn around.  After my test piece and recalculate my cost comparing with other option, I plan to get frames from timeline, and sew myself the panels.  I was not too sure whether to use vinyl again or marine mesh.  Now that your tip of cover just help me to make up my mind.  Thanks!

P/s:  If anyone like to have a custom make mesh panel, I can sew it and with little charge on the labor and the cost of material, any taker?

  • Thanks, everyone.  I really appreciate your expertise on this.  It is very helpful to hear about what has worked in your experience.

  • Nelda, when Connie Mettler and her husband were still doing shows Connie made her own covers and they also used the curtain hooks.  We attached them with velcro  to the panels and I thought they looked great.  Since the covers are flat pieces of fabric they are very easy to make.  You wouldn't need to be a seamstress to make them.  We threw them over the top of the panel and velcroed them at the bottom.  The look was very professional.

Good luck with what ever you come up with.

  • i work in fiber, so much of my work is lightweight...this year I am in the process of making panels that hang from my tent supports. using cheap wooden screen doors that I'm covering with gray headliner fabric and hanging pieces with drapery hooks/velcro. I'm hoping for a more professional look in my booth without spending too much $$$.

  • you're right Flourish will make the covers but they were a little pricey...and I know a reasonable seamstress.

  • I thought about getting covers for mine because you're right, they do look good (I think you can buy them right from Flourish.com in a variety of colors) but then then appeal of having multiple ways of setting up got the best of me.  I like that if I don't have space behind my tent for storage, I can move a couple panels around and actually make myself a little storage area.  I was fortunate enough that I already had a big enough trailer to add the panels without hurting myself too badly.  But you're right, that is definitely something to take into account.
