I posted this before, but never saw it on the site, so will try again.
So far I have gotten 2 Marriott Courtyards on priceline.com for next year: Fort Lauderdale for $42/night and West Palm Beach for $45/night. Both on the first bid, so they might have gone cheaper.
Has anyone used the auto-bid site that was mention here? I didn't, in part because I forgot to bookmark it.

Yes, just saw that. I definitely do not like the mystery factor for hotels, but I may give it a shot! :-)
One may book through priceline.com, but the rates are not especially good. To get low rates one must "bid".
I have never used Priceline but may look at it. I've gotten Hilton hotels for 50-60 in the South Florida area and I usually booked with AAA discount through their website. I travel about 1/3 of the year, so I usually pay their rate to get the points and then cash in points whenever the hotel rates become ridiculous, like for the Coconut Grove/St. Stephen's Art show weekend in Miami. Hotel rates are well over the $150 range so, I will cash in points for that trip. I will check Priceline and see how their prices are for that weekend, I highly doubt you can get something for under $60. Prices in general for South Florida drop after March because the weather warms up around the country. Weekend rates are still higher, but not 2-3 times the average rate for the type of room you go for.
I use biddingfortravel.com to determine what is a likely bid. I use tripadvisor.com to see what it would have cost on the other sites, after I win; and to learn of restaurants and activities nearby. I try not to bid below 3*, so bedbugs are not a problem.
Travis, you can always look at www.tripadvisor.com before bidding on Priceline. Sometimes people will mention what their low winning bid was. That always helps when trying to decide what to start off with. I think it doesn't hurt to read the comments, too. People will post if bed bugs were found there.

S.T. I wrote about TheBiddingTraveler.com back in August. I was drawn to it because of the auto-bid feature. The very next time I tried to use it (with a low starting bid) it did NOT function as advertised.
Don't know if that was a one-time hiccup or not.
anyway, thx for the Florida feedback, we are headed to south miami in late Feb.
