Hey Bill, What is the "drunk" festival in Atlantic Beach? I'd like to avoid it if possible. What is the name of it? The only 3 I know of like that would be the Jax Seafood Festival, Springing in the Blues (both on Jax Beach) and the Dancing in the Streets (in Atlantic Beach) in May. There is also the Blues festival in Jacksonville proper this spring. I do the North Beaches Art Walk in Atlantic Beach sometimes and it is a nice crowd - 3rd Thurs. of the month.
Venues has produced 2 shows here/Both VERY SUCCESSFUL// and Jacksonville needs good Art Festivals; with good quality artists; the crafters can do the drunk festin Atlantic Beach; there were no shows in 2010 due to a sale and new management at the center/ These folks get my thumbs up / they saw the previous problems and made a difference.// They have all the logistics in place; and they just got a great bump;// Tim Tebow Celebrity Golf Tourney- right next door at Sawgrass-- See ya there to make some money; I can't imagine missing this local show, especially when my slice of pie is larger than any shrimp festival slice;; with 300 plus exhibitors and 100-150 antique venders and 50-75 food booths, carnival, and concert venue -- and watch out for those shrimpy fingers all over your work-- YAHOO
I have the app. I can email it to you if you'll send your email. I can't figure out how to forward to your page on artfair. The address for venues is Robin Conte venues@comcast.net. My email is keenjewelry@yahoo.com. I had a friend who did it last spring. She was disappointed. There was plenty of kettle corn and wood turned pens so you won't see alot of fine art. J and Co. used to do the Ponte Vedra shows and they were good, but when they went out of business, this "Venues" took over. I don't know who the organizers are, but if you are traveling a distance you might want to get recommendations from artists who were there. That is the weekend after the BIG Fernandina Shrimp Festival. It is also the weekend of the Savannah Saturday Art Walk which is always pretty good. I live in St.Augustine and have customers in PonteVedra and I'm not going. There is a new show with lots of backing, Cummer Museum for one, in the Avondale area of Jacksonville Fl.- Jacksonville Fine Arts Festival, April 9-10, $150 on Zapp. I do the Riverside Arts Market often in the same neighborhood, and I'm planning to do this one. We've needed a fine arts show in Jax for awhile since the Riverside Art Show is no longer going. This is a show that will grow.
Hi, I only did this show one time in October of 2009. It is definitely a show I would do again. The booth fee was very minimal..the two ladies that run venues are very nice and responsive. I never had any issue with them not calling/emailing me. Setup was easy although I do believe it was later at night. I can't be sure, but that didn't matter to me. We had fun setting up...no one was around to hassle us and it was just a breeze. The hotel we stayed at was literally in the same little shopping plaza so that was nice. I will say it was a very teeny, tiny, art show and not a lot of fine artists. HOwever, that is not to say there were not great artists there. I thought the fine art was great. Not like a huge art show by any means, but for the amount of the booth fee, and the fact that there are not many artists I believe your chances to sell are high. Just my opinion...ya know, when you're in an art show with 400 artists, and 75 painters that just dilutes our customers I think. I sold like 6 originals at this show, and a small number of prints. Hope this helps!
Great comments, all, thanks! (I love this site!) ;-)
May in North Florida is not pushing the envelope quite as far as May in SW Florida, which is why this show is under consideration. May in SW Fla is not pushing the envelope so much as folding, stapling, bending, and mutilating it! :-)
Unsubstantiated gossip is that these two women (Venues) hosted the show for years at Sawgrass Village (shopping center). Artists who participated at the time claim quite a bit of success in this high-dollar area. The Village fell into disrepair, and the show was cancelled. Calls and e-mails to Venues went unanswered.
Enter a new management company for Sawgrass Village. After a spit and polish, management contacted Venues and requested they host another event. With all the logistics in place from years prior there seemed to be no downside for Venues or Sawgrass Village. Invitations were announced.
This would be a fantastic area to host a show, though I'm kinda vanilla on the shopping center venue. Tons of money here, mostly year-round residents not hit much by foreclosures or unemployment. Personally, I think May in Florida is pushing the envelope, but if you're on your way home from somewhere south it has tremendous potential.
I did their fall show last year. I think that show is now defunct. They are a little disorganized. First told me I could set up at 7:30PM on Friday, then it was 10:00PM so hubby and I went out to dinner and had coffee since we were going to be up late. When it changed to midnight we decided to go to bed and set up in the morning. Since we drank all that coffee, neither one of us could sleep. I can't say a lot about the quality of art either. Some of it was pretty lame.
On the other hand there is good money in Ponte Vedra and I got some of it. People near me seemed to do well also. If they are in the same location there is a hotel within walking distance and except for the time craziness it is an easy setup and breakdown. The promotors are nice and helpful just seemed a little new at putting on an art show.
No, Geoff, I hadn't heard of it either until they contacted me to add the link to CallsforArtists.com. Sounds like a great date for you Florida artists.
Thanks, Connie, I didn't know about this show either! I read their application and it is saying it's the 17th annual...but I've never heard of the promoter (Venues). They say all the right things in their mission statement, but have they just taken over this show? Has anyone else ever worked with them?
