Old Florida Celebration Arts Cedar Key, FL

Did any painters do this show last year? I'm considering applying but have had horrible sales this fall and didn't even make expenses at two shows. Just wondering what sales are normally like at this show. Can you make a profit with travel expenses? I'm coming from Greenville, SC.

I actually have four oil paintings I did that are from our vacation in Cedar Key last winter. Here they are on my website... http://584mar.aquinas.hostingrails.com/paintings/by_category_available/176

Thanks for any feedback!!

  • There were a lot of people who commented on the Shrimp Festival who said the same thing.
  • Be very careful expecting much from Fernandina Shrimp Festival. It's all about where you end up being placed. The main street is packed, but the side streets could be bowling alleys. I've done it twice. Though I made expenses and a few nickels to rub together, I passed on it this year.

I also have experience with Old Florida in Cedar Key -- actually won an award -- and had a difficult choice with a competing event the following year. I opted for a different area that weekend instead and have never regretted it.
  • great--thank you!

  • Marie,
Yes, that is the one. They also have a relatively new fall show which i haven't done.
  • Linda, is this the ShrimpFest you are talking about? http://www.shrimpfestival.com/vendorinfo.html
  • thanks, Linda!
  • tried this show 6 years ago and did not return. If you haven't tried Fernandina Beach ShrimpFest, look into that. Have been with that venue for 8 years. It is not a barn burner but solid and steady sales. Also, Artsplosure in Raliegh. I have heard there are several one day fests in NC that are solid as well. Good luck.
  • Thanks for your advice. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who hasn't done well this year.
What do you do when you can't get into any shows in your own town? I moved from Milwaukee 2 years ago. It seems like there were so many more opportunities there to show my art without traveling.
  • Done this show a couple of times 3-4 years ago. I wouldn't drive that far. If you are vacationing there anyway, that's another story.
