New and Happy I found ArtfairInsiders!

Hello!! I have been reading your blogs for some time and have learned a great deal! Thank You to everyone who shares! What a wonderful gift! I am not sure I can offer much as I stay here in my own neck of the woods...literally the woods....but we have some fine shows here and some amazing artists and crafters for a small area. If any of you decide to travel to this naturally magnificent area for a show, one thing I can promise is INSPIRATION from the miles of breathtaking shorelines, deep lush forests and the peacefulness that it has to offer! The shows...whether juried or not are inexpensive to enter, relaxed to work at, are full of unique and talented creative minds, and although you might not make a million dollars, when compared to the low entry fee's, offer pretty good crowds of buyers to help pay for the long drive!! Again...Thank You all for sharing!

  • Hi Dawn and welcome aboard :)  Love your bubbly personality and passion - it shows through your writing :D
  • No please keep posting AND making art.  Thanks for sharing.  The UP is beautiful.  I use to live in Ann Arbor while my husband went to college.  His family is all in  Michigan, but Lansing.  We loved going up north.
  • OOPS!! Someone smarter than me needs to do my posting for me and let me stick to the making of the art! I am in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!! I have attended the Outback Art Fair in Marquette for years and have not one bad thing to say about it.....on the same weekend if artists care to pay just a bit more and be in a juried show, there is the Art On the Rocks in Marquette. Now that show is not getting the great reviews as it once did, from artists or patrons, since they moved their location from one end of the town to the other. I attended the Art on the Lake in Curtis Michigan for the first time this year and will be doing that show again next year for sure! Its a one day show with music and food too and had a great turn out as far as crowds go! Surprisingly many artists did not show up and the only complaint I heard was from one person who was upset that because the space between artists tents was vast due to all the no-shows he felt people were turning around before they got to his booth way down on the end. I was right behind him and was happy with the flow of people coming by but then again I was on one of the center lanes. I also do the Art in the Park in Copper Harbor Michigan. Its a small two day show....I'm not sure if its juried....LOL....but the artists they have are fantastic and the atmosphere is unbeatable....but then I might be biased because its my favorite little town ever! I never pay over 125.00 for a weekend show here and what I make well covers any expenses and I drive a gas hog truck...but then again I dont have to travel very far! Even if I lived 10 hours away, I'd still make out! There are many more shows up here....juried and not....there is Art in the Park in Escanaba which is juried but I have never attended that...yet....and there are shows in Sault Ste. Marie that I have been to years ago as a shopper and from what I saw, again....magnificent artists in all mediums! I lived down state for a year North of Detroit and attended as a buyer the Arts and Apples in Rochester and was blown away at how incredibly HUGE it was!! A little intimidating for a small town girl like me....but talking to the artists I learned that quite a few travel to some of these shows up here in the Summer .... and I got mixed reviews on what they thought  about them, but the majority said they would return to the shows in the North!  Every single one of them had nothing but good things to say about Arts & Apples!! Well I hope this helps a little to make things clearer! Maybe I will see you this Summer....this in a great vacation area even if you dont do a show! Oh shoot.....I forgot to mention the art show in Eagle Harbor Michigan. Years ago my father did that show....he carved a Swedish style of birds and did fantastic! This year I went to check the show out to see if it had changed over the years and every artist that talked to had nothing but good things to say about it! It was a small show but everyone was making money! I think I might do that one next year too...and it is juried.
