NAPLES--HMMM. NO REVIEW--HOW COME?

Well, I was there.  It wasn't very pretty for me.  Maybe for others.  Somebody please step up to the plate and give a review.  I hate being put in a tight spot with Mrs. Megala reading-- Help me Rhonda, Help me please.  Don't make me have to review this show.  BTW, I did not make expenses--worst show in 32 years in Naples.  Help.  Somebody who did good, please write the review.  it aint going to be me folks.  I am not stupid.

  • Did anyone participate in this show this year (2016)? I did horrible back in 2013, and I read that it didn't get any better for 14' or 15'. It would be good to hear if it is getting any better.

  • It's good to hear from more than one artist about a show.  Thanks Nels and everyone else who share their experiences.

  • Well here is my take which was not discussed in the fine review my friend did of the show.

Howard Alan ran this show on 5th Ave. for 20 years, the merchants gave him the boot.  It was always on New years Eve when many more people, especially Europeans are in town.

Last  year the Naples Art Assn, under able leadership of Marianne Megala, took over the show and held it on New Years Weekend.

We had 150 exhibitors and pretty much everybody made serious money.

    Now cut to this year.

Show is held one weekend later than New Years, makes a big difference in the makeup of the buying crowd.  Maybe the merchants didn't want any white tents on their 5th Ave on new years.  All I know is the show was held one week later.

About 50 more booths, cuts into sales.  Also since it is six blocks long it makes it hard for be-backs.

Mostly older crowd, their walls are already filled.  Most walked with nothing in their hands.

There were good sales made by a fair percentage and then there were people like me who did not make expenses.  My show was off by 1000 per cent.  That is a big drop.

Sorry folks, but if this show continues to be one week later again, it will be a so-so show for many of us.

To those who did well, I say God Bless.  But most of us fared poorly.

That is all I am saying.

BTW, Marianne runs a very professional show--she did everything right.  It is not her fault that it was off.

So there, that is some real meat--which most reviewers never touch on.

By me saying what I said, it will not hurt me one bit from getting into any show.  it hasn't happened yet.  You get in based on your scores of images--not because you gave a critical review.

  • Sorry to hear you had a bummer of a show nels! I was at the show and it was my first show in Naples we did well as did the people surrounding me one scuptor had over 10,000 in on sat alone. I would love to know what you thought was so off about the show, was it the later date, less people? One of our regulars and multiple other people told me they just happened upon the show and heard no advertising but I don't know for sure as we stay in ft. Lauderdale.
  • This was the "Downtown Naples New Year's Weekend Art Fair."  Which was on Jan. 7-8, not New Year's Weekend, unless my calendar is seriously mistaken.    :-)

  • Which one of the 50+ Naples shows was this? There are so many, I get confused.
  • Interesting that you say that, Pat...I kept waiting for one of my Estero customers to mention the Naples show, but none did.

  • Can't comment because I was at Estero, but we had numerous customers that said it was a shame that these two shows were on the same weekend.
