Fifty Shades of Procrastination

How disciplined (no pun intended) are you about your artwork?  Is it hard for you to resist distractions, or is your artwork a wonderful distraction from everything else you have to do?  Are you one of those wonderfully wholesome, green, hard working people who stay away from unsavory TV, movie and naughty books?

I'm grateful to have a nice pile of work to do right now, but other things, like exercise, talking on the phone, reading trashy books, or writing my silly blog about drawing portraits, seems to eat up most of the day.  In today's blog entry, I wrote about NOT drawing portraits and my weekend's source of procrastination.  Here it is, 2:20 pm and I've been on the computer all day instead of behind my easel.

I SWEAR I am going to go up there right now!!!  Somebody call me in five minutes and make sure I'm not fooling around on the computer any more today.

Do you insure your art work?

With the weather calamity that just happened at Columbus, I just got thinking about the loss of work and how to recover from that.  Besides the psychological effects, I wonder how many artists are able to recoup losses if they are insured.  CERF helps out artists and is a great organization to contribute to.  Have you ever had to file a claim or ask for assistance after a weather disaster?

Painting Lady 1 in Augusta, Wisconsin

Hi everyone!

Please bear with me as it has been 40years since high school English and college English!!

I just had a wonderful week end visit with my Mom up in Augusta, Wisconsin! Had to bring up some of Grandmothers' things for my Mom to go over, plus a few things of my Sisters', a bit of a sad thing to do, but necessary. Anyway in spite of that, we had a really good time and visit! The reason I am writing this about Augusta, I don't know if people know of the large Amish Community they have up there? They do the most amazing quilts, wood work, furniture and the bake goods are just to die for!!!! The most beautiful breads!!!!

The Wood Shed in Augusta on Main Street, sells quite a bit of their furniture, their toys and such, but did you know that you can take a bus tour of the Amish Community? This is really something to see, you are riding along in your truck, car on the back roads, right along horse and buggy on the road! I know that there are some artists that specialize in Amish Artwork, this small area of Wisconsin would be a good place for this type of artwork. Make sure to ask permission first if it is all right to paint on their property and such. But never the less even if you just take a ride by yourself, the country side up there is beautiful! My Mom and I took a ride in her 1 ton truck up and down the hills on the back roads, it was bright and suuny, just a perfect day for a Sunday ride in the country. There is also a pretty good size art community up in the Augusta area, Roz Henning and her group, put on The Falling Leaves Art Tour every Fall, I think it is in October, this is a Saturday and Sunday ride in the country of the small towns, going thru the local artists art studios, to see what the do, talk with the artists and buy some lovely local artwork! Plus the local resturants offer wonderful meals and such when you are done with the tour! Beautiful art and wonderful food in Gods' Country! Again it's a pretty good ride to get to Augusta, it's outside of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, you can do mapquest to get driving directions.

Copy KATS. Artist beware!

Hey Everyone.

Wanted to share a little situation that has happen to me and boy it has just blown the wind out of my blond hair doo. Skip can validate via the show in Myrtle Beach.

My crabs are being copied and repainted in a classroom for profit studio!

I found a web site that has done a fantastic job of clipping YOUR artwork. They teach it in classes and they are located in Mt. Pleasant SC. The take on the studio is that you pay them $30-$40 dollars and you get a canvas, frame and a bottle of brewski or wine for a couple of hours. Great concept a buzz and a painting.

When I went through a search saw one of my crab paintings that I had not painted. I searched it to a studio not far from me in the Charleston area. These rats are using so many paintings from online artist to teach in classes. My crab painting had been painted over 150 times. After I contacted them last night they quickly fixed the web site. But hey Mrs. blonde HTML is snazzy. I have contacted over 7 artist to let them know about these money mongers and saved the web page on my hard drive. I Also purchased the other part of their domain name, which when done will go to the top of the search for their term. Blond, a computer geek and a painter. Look out baby this could get a little scary. I have been slinging paint and snot all morning, brewing a good batch of steaming mean girl face stew. My husband said I need to go and dig a hole in the field.

What do I do?

The owner of the original red crab painting that I painted and wanted to know if I was a "Student" Painter! This has sent me to a place. Imagine all my hair standing on end only fried, with my meany girl face. This is really a bad deal here. Watch out for your images you never know where they will turn up.

They place is called Bottles n Brushes. Do the search to see if your work is not being copied in the "Gallery" area were the students hold up the finished work they have just painted. The happy owner collects around $400-$500 every night and smiles all the way to the bank.

Happy hair day! (Ok I did let go of the mean girl face, but the hair is still on end!)
Heather

(Hope this wasn't to negative just wanted to warn the artist.)
