I'd like to hear from anyone who has done the Santa-Cal-Agon Festival in Independence in August. I haven't been able to find out a whole lot about it except for the fact that it seems to have huge crowds, long hours and they allow buy/sell. I'd especially like to know if there is any indication of fine crafts being sold there or is it more of a "canine sunglasses" sort of festival. I have read that they have watermelon-seed spitting contests and root beer chugging and that sounds sort of scary. Sunshine Artist had some pretty nice things to say about it but price points seemed to be on the low side of the scale. Any comments would be appreciated.

That description alone ought to deter you.
Thank you all for your comments. You know what a big part of the problem is? I'd made the decision to cut back on my show schedule this Spring and I'm simply itching to "go"! I've got a bad case of cabin-fever and I'm about ready to do a show whether it's any good or not. I hope I'm not the only one out there with this "illness'. Thank goodness I'm doing Cottonwood this weekend so, maybe that will pacify me for a couple of weeks. If it doesn't, I may end up in the watermelon-seed spitting competition!
I have been to this event as a visitor a couple of times and it is very eclectic! That's about as nice as I can be... I have two friend who have done it a few times and gave it up due to the long hours and load in/out issues.
Don, I have no experience with the show in question, but I have experience with a show that sounds similiar, that Sunshine Artist once rated #44 on their FINE arts list. Major error. Nail together "country" pine furniture, dried floral arrangements, decorated sweatshirts, etc. And their stage entertainment was cloggers (dancers)
My vote is to not base a show decision on a Sunshine Artist rating. I would suggest that if everything else about it sounds sort of scary, then it probably is ! Although I bet the watermelon-seed spitters and root beer chuggers would get along great with the cloggers :)
