I too, want to go back to Fairfax. Maybe I can get in a little closer to the beginning or middle of the street. We were at the end where there were empty stores. Proved a bit rough on sales. Our Saturday rocked, but Sunday-just saw tire kickers-so, no sales. I know, that given some time, and, definitely our support as artists, this wonderful little gem, as well as the rest of the Paragon Shows will shine. Keep doing what you're doing Bill Kinney-it will 'payoff' for all of us (and a big thanks to Laura too!).
I so understand, Patti. I live in Michigan on the border with Indiana, 12 miles away. You'd think Indiana was a foreign country -- never do we hear any news. I believe they somewhat have this thing going on in Cleveland, right? West side people don't go to the East side and vice versa.
Actually what you are describing is fine, as long as there is good attendance at all of the shows. Then the people don't get burned out on show after show and only attend their area events.
Connie, Reston and Alexandria are both pretty close to Fairfax,Va....and then again, there is Bethesda, Md...but the Va. people usually go to Va. shows- and the Md. people usually got to Md. shows...why is that???I am from northern N.J., and we thought nothing of driving to New York City to see broadway or eat in a great restaurant...what is up wih that? I will never understand it....
Thanks for this info, Patti and Tom. Seems to me Fairfax would be a good area for customers with educations, good jobs and an interest in the arts, as well as lots of new homeowners. Getting these folks to the show and capturing their hearts and minds is the challenge. Are there any other outdoor shows near here? How far away is Reston?
Hi Tom, no, we are not painters- we are mixed media artists using architectural antiques- both pieces were wall pieces though- one a mirror, one a funky piece...but we are all in this together to fight for the same money...for the same wall space. One of my customers bought from a painter($3400) near me...I know, because we delivered the piece to the house for him- they also bought from the rust-wall guy down by you...so they bought three wall pieces that day at the show...oh,and they are collectors! In their home, as a Dali and three Todd White paintings..we feel blessed to amongst that art. Please give this show another shot..it has only just begun...sounds like a song!
That's great, Patti. I'm thrilled for you and the success you had at the Fairfax show. Just curious, were the two large works you sold two-dimensional original paintings? That's the pulse I was monitoring since that's what I do. I didn't get to talk with every painter but those I did were having a tough time at the fair. I totally agree. Set up and tear down was easy. I didn't see any artist try to leave early in my neck of the booth neighborhood. I also agree. Bill and his staff were terrific throughout the fair. My hat's off to them. Hopefully, more of the Fairfax artists will let us know how they did.
Bob and I had a very different expereience at the Fairfax show....set up was a breeze and so was break down- a few artists decided to enter the show site too early on Sunday to start their pack up, that is a no-no!We think that the D.C. area is a great monied area, due to all of the government jobs. You can't always "see" the money, but it is there. We sold two large pieces, one each day...delivered and hung them both- which is sometimes the key to a better art show- customer convenience- our Saturday customer said if we would deliver and hang the piece, she really had to find a place for it...and she did...Okay, this is a first year show- the kinks have to be ironed out- but that is to be expected. Bill Kinney and his staff are available during the show for comments...he cares how his artists are doing...and constantly asks...this show has great potential, what more can you ask for? Looking forward to Silver Spring art festival next weekend, then on to Bethesda Fine Art festival...let's hear it for D.C. shows! They rock!
