My husabnd and I are packing up the RV in Tucson and going on a 4 month trip east ( my home town is Philly/Ventnor, NJ). We will be doing about 16 shows, Harrisburg PA, Frederick Md, Long Beach Island NJ, New port News, VA, Gaithersburg MD, Southport NC, Haddonfield NJ, Cape May NJ ( 3 times) Ocean City NJ, Long Beach Island again, Stone Harbor NJ, Collingswood, NJ. The Rose Squared show in NY, Margate Fall Fun Festival in NJ ( fun show). Coming back to Patagonia AZ. I will blog along the way, if anyone is interested in the east coast on this forumn. Anyone familiar with these shows??????
Bob, I have never done any of these as a vendor and never heard of most and I am from the area. But I have been to the Fall Block Party in Ocean City many times. Great block party. Not an art show. Lots of chackas and food and knitting and beach things .... but mobbed. barely have room to walk.
Does anyone have any feedback for a wood artisan about the following shows?
LBIs Beachfest I (July 9th) & Beachfest II (August) craft fair - Pam Patullo, promoter (kraftfairs.com).
Giant Craft Show in Ocean Grove (Labor Day Weekend)
Chester Fall Craft Show (September 10th & 11th)
Wheaton Arts Festival of Fine Crafts (October 1st & 2nd)
Indian Summer Festival / Fall Block Party in Ocean City (October 8th)
Christmas Arts & Craft Festival on the Music Pier in Ocean City (November 19th & 20th)
I really like this blog – the first I’ve seen from people who have actually been to some of the shows we are considering or have already registered for.
Correction, the RoseSquared show we are doing is at Anderson Park in New Jersey. Janet, the producer has been EXREMEly helpful and I fully recommend you get in touch with her and look into her line up for no othe reason then she is a joy to talk to.
Just drove up yesterday, 17 hours, oh my..... hope your trip is better:). Geesh, I hate to bring the bad news, and Daryl seems like she does okay. Jewelry is so different.... put it this way: I'm never doing Stone Harbor again just as a matter of principle. But it's a hard call: Stone Harbor crowds have plenty to spend, so the right person could absolutely love your work (as they should) and make your weekend worth it. It's just a question of being able to stomache the rip-off of artists and the massive commercialization of art to do it. I can't, but some people do make money there. I guess it's a personal call.
I live in OC and don't do the show there b/c for the most part it's low quality. But again, there are some discriminating buyers who could make it work for you. Your art strikes me as definitively Florida, and up here they want lifeguard stands and beach boats.... again, I"m usually not the negative nay-sayer, but I hate to see you make the trip and not make money. If you do come, please be in touch, we'll take you out for grub:).
Yes, I live in OC, very familiar with the NIV event. I haven't done Bayfest, though I've walked through it. I wish you good luck there, and everywhere this summer, Daryl:).
August 13th is a Cape May NJ show on the Boardwalk. Put on by the City of Cape May I think. 2 days.
Sept 2 nd is the same. Did good at both shows last year. Is it honky tonk, yes. Did I do well, yes. But my art ranges from $29 to $129, if that helps.
July 16 is a one day Ocean City NJshow that I have not done before. The reason it is supposed to be so good is that a very well thought of event called Night in Venice is that same night and people have to get on the island early in the day before the bridge closes and they shop and eat all that day. Draws people from all over. I did the Stone Harbor show, and did what I usually do at a good, not fabulous show. I think the inside tents there do better, just a thought. Have you ever considered the Margate NJ show, weekend of Sept 24th?
Hey Kevan, it was great meeting you at Sawgrass too! I'm getting bad, bad vibes about that Stone Harbor show. Besides selling on the spot (of course!) I was hoping to use it to market my appearances in Sept. at the Wings n Water Festival and (the following week) at the Cape May Art League show. But I've heard so much about the dichotomy between the stringent application process and the buy/sell stuff that shows up, that I wonder if the show could possibly have any integrity. You've seen my work...do you think the Ocean City NJ boardwalk show the same weekend would be a better show for me? (No pressure, LOL!) But I would value your opinion.
Hi Daryl, Nice list of shows in this post! Who is the promoter/contact person for the Aug 13 and Sept 2 OC shows that you mention? Are these just one day shows?
