  • Linda, we've never worked this show, but we were at the Festival in the Park at the same location in November.  The venue is beautiful, but the show was VERY crafty.  We were virtually the only artists there, and we didn't make expenses.  Compare this with Las Olas Fort Lauderdale a few weeks earlier where we did very well.  Amanda commented that she visited several other Latino vendors, all selling cheap crafts or buy/sell, and they said the show was a bust.

There are a lot of fine shows in Florida in Feb and March (as much as any show is fine these days).  Check out Howard Alan's shows, many of which are decent and are probably still open.  We'll be at two of his shows, Sarasota and Key Biscayne, in Feb and March.   A lot of the really good shows are past their deadlines, though.

Maybe the spring show is designed to draw a different crowd.  I hope so.

We kind of like craft oriented shows if there's a mix of good artists attending, because it changes the nature of the crowd.  I don't know if that's good or bad, any ideas?  I can tell you that the booth next door had a very nice woman whose cat had died 17 years earlier; her booth consisted of cds dedicated to cat funerals (no lie).  She played a pan flute or recorder or flute or something and harmonized over "greensleeves" for two days while selling her cds.  No insult intended but my sanity was tested.  I needed a dose of Chris Cornell at night at the trailer, just to maintain my sanity.

Between the five dollar jewelry and the cat funeral music we were out of place.  The good news is that Lake Eola Park is BEAUTIFUL.    Somebody in another blog said it's a bad neighborhood.  I saw no evidence of it, and if the right promoter brings in the right mix of people we may want to go back.  But not to that show.
