Do any of our members have any info on the Deland art & craft show the last weekend in March. Looking for the basics, demographics, turnouts, quality of art, etc.
We were there for this year's show in the same location we had last year. It was cold on both days, but it was nothing like the frigid weather we were hearing about from other shows.
The crowds seem quite a bit larger than last year, but our sales were off from last year. There were many artists who were having a slow weekend. I didn't hear from many who did that well, but I didn't do a thorough survey.
It's not a bad crowd, but they just didn't seem to be buying. Those who bought from us went straight for the low end items.
The setup and teardown aren't that bad. We were right next to a streetlight, but many had to finish packing in the dark since the sun is going down earlier these days. There was plenty of parking and those who got there earlier could get closer to the show.
The overall quality was quite good and the awards are among the highest. Our neighbor, Tony Eitharong, won the 6K best of show.
The surroundings are generally more upscale than average and Dunedin itself supports a couple of galleries, so I would think the crowd would be more sophisticated than most. Getting them to buy, however, wasn't easy that weekend.
