  I guess I would appreciate full disclosure.  I would like the show to say why they are extending the deadline.  Some shows will disclose that a show date change or application type change or weather event necessitated a deadline change.  I think the farther that is done in advance, the more understandable it is.  But up until yesterday at some point (the original Summerfair deadline), the deadline in Zapp was still 2/1, even though Connie reported it here the day before.   

   

  I certainly understand the expectation of a certain number of apps, but at what point does it stop and should a show disclose their perceived app quota?  Given that they will toss out 25% of the apps due to the reasons Connie mentions above (and more I’m sure), maybe even 50%, should they say they expect 4 times as many applications to booth spots so it appears they are a more selective show?  If they don't get enough quality artists, what's wrong with making the show a little smaller (other than of course the lost income from fewer booths)?  And will nine more days really make that much difference?  Will they tell us how many apps they get in those last nine days?

   

  And I get that the jury fees can be cheap insurance for individual artists, but they are collectively significant income to a particular show. 

   

  I know these topics have been discussed ad nauseum on this site, just adding my two cents.

  Exactly, Larry.

  This phenomenon, choosing closing dates because of other show's dates, was discussed here: http://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topics/a-little-show-gossip

  It usually means that they didn't get as many applications as they hoped for, now I am not saying it is the case in this particular circumstance. But don't imagine that all 300, e.g., applications were excellent work. In any jury pool there are many beginners who throw their hat in the ring hoping, who have never done a show before, whose jury shot is an empty cardtable with a tablecloth on it set up in front of a garage door, or whose images are are packed full of everything they have ever made (maybe the judges will like this piece), whose images have mixed media (a painting, a vase, some jewelry) who submit fewer than the requested images, etc.

  All artists will waste is their Cincinnati jury fee if Columbus is late in reporting. It's a cheap insurance policy.

  Wonder what would happen if Columbus suddenly pushed their results date back to say 2-12?  And the real question I wonder about is do you think the incoming applications are reviewed prior to deadline and they say gee these suck, let's see if we can get some better quality in here, OR do you think they simply look at the total apps and say we were expecting 600 and we only got 300 let's see if we can't get some more???
