I thought we live in the USA, I thought we had freedom of speech. I really thought as artists that would be self- evident. Nice is usually meaningless. I'm not interested in reading censored blogs, then why have this. I like the person who wrote that as artists we have to be thick skinned. To live a life and take chances you have to be thick skinned. If you don't like what someone writes, don't read what they have to say. Grow up, get real. Live. Speak. Do you want to see and make only "nice" art? I don't.
Yes. I agree. I say things from a good heart and am sometimes accused of being "short" when I reply to an email or "stuck up" because I am shy. We all need grace.
Absolutely, it is not what is said it is how it is said. I don't think there are topics here that upset people, only the comments that are directed to certain people that are intended to belittle them. We need discussions that help others, that is true. But, any comment can be made without shooting at someone from the hip.
My hubby is a History teacher. He alsways says yes, we do have freedom of speech here in America. But, once you say what you want you will also have to live with any negative effects your comment makes. It is something to think about.
I agree with you Carol. I did not read theinitial post that set some people off, so my comment may not be appropriate, but sometimes it is not what is said, but how it is said. I can make this comment since i am constantly being reminded that I need to think before i speak.
Agree. I typically take the not so agreeable avenue and it was most likely some of my comments that upset some others. I call it like I see it. If we don't share observations, issues, etc but always "play" nice then why bother? Most people are good...but it's sharing those tough situations with others and discussing viable solutions that helps everyone be more successful in what we love to do. Vending shows is not for the faint of heart, its a ton of hard work, and requires that we be diligent on all matters. Having forums to discuss such issues without monitoring or censoring is the only way to do this. While some may be upset, perhaps they should take a step back and ask, why are those comments upsetting? Is it the words used that makes them uncomfortable, are the ideas outside their range of experience, or are they themselves guilty of the same behavior? Opening up someone's self to new ideas can be very scary for many people, its safe to stay inside and hide, but its not productive in this business and it only makes it that much harder for all those desiring to make a viable living to be around those running their business like a Sunday afternoon social.
