Patti and I have done the HAE shows for 18 years- we want to work and make money, so we look for a promoter who makes that possible...and they fit the bill by bringing out the crowds. That is what we want, and just that- crowds! The water we will bring from home.
Jeff...where is the "anger"... you asked for our experience with Howard Allen shows and that is what was written...sorry if it did not go in the direction that you were hoping for....
I've been doing HA shows for 7 years and they comprise 85% of my shows. Howard Alan events is a business, they rent you a 10x10 space and do the advertising to bring out the people, the rest is up to you. That being said they have made several changes lately to be more artist friendly. They now have a dedicated artist hotline that you can call if you have a problem on show site, they are providing breakfast at most shows, and I've even seen them coming around with a cooler filled with water during the day. I don't even mind the early morning setups as it makes for a great nights sleep on Saturday. I'm definately a cheerleader for Howard Alan Events.
I appreciate it when artist are treated really well by producers of a show, on a scale of 1 to 10 that sits on a 2 for me, the most important thing is to get the word out and have buyers at the show and for the ones i have done he seems to do that. As long as I am not insulted or asked to sweep the street after a show I am fine with making money and going home to my kingdom. Would I prefer to be treated better? yes, but his policies are not more than I can handle so I apply.
OK, I can see where this is going. I'm an artist, thanks for correcting me!. Ok, the water was an example. Wonderful shows all over that I have been a part of actually treat the "Artists" like they care. Howard Alan does not. Let's just drop it. Those I see at the Colorado shows all seem to feel like I do.
Sorry to raise your anger.
I have only done one Howard alan show but it was great for me. I was not entused about the early morning set up but it was a small drawback. I am applying to a couple this year and hope that I get in. The crowds were great and people were buying. What more could I ask for. I'll bring my own water.
Good advice, Steve. If you are nearby, and/or are going to be in Florida, apply for one of the shows and see if it works for you. It it works, great -- if not, move on.
We have only good things to say about Howard Allen shows....very easy to do once you get the hang of the early morning setup....as for the bottle of water, I'm OK with taking care of that myself...Howards job is getting the word out about the show, from our experience he gets it done...call yourself whatever , we are artists...not vendors.....do a Howard Allen show and see if it fits for you...it has worked well for us....
I'm interested how others feel about Howard Alan events.
I find you often need to set up at 5AM, there is never any one around staff wise, if it's 100 degrees out, has anyone ever gotten a bottle of water? They are close to the "most expensive" with the least concern for the vendors I've ever seen.
