  • Michael, Thanks for the comment (and apologies for delay in responding; we've been on the road). I appreciate the response. I recently noticed that there are some other shows that weekend, but Frederick is the closest one for us so I think, based on what I've heard, that we'll stick closer to home rather than risk a bad and/or so-so show for what is about a 10-hour drive for us. I hope your season has gone okay and that 2011 brings you prosperousness!  ~Emily

  • I did it this year and the show was a failure for me and everyone around me (except for a printmaker, who did huge!). I didn't even make expenses. The weather was fine (there was a one hour wind/rain blast on Sat.), large numbers of people, I had a great location, with a corner; my van was about 50' in the artists' parking lot behind me. The local economy is experiencing about a 15% unemployment rate, about as bad as Cleveland (Cain Park for me last year also tanked, because the locals just don't have the money to buy art). The artists' treatment was very good, with a wonderful awards breakfast. In general, there just wasn't any $$ for us artists. I will have to wait a year or two to apply, since it's a 1300 mile drive for me. But if you do it, visit German Town (sic?), it's got a great bunch of bars and restaurants - maybe Nels can back me up on this?
  • I am having that dilemma too. I haven't heard great things about the columbus show lately but the last time I did it I did alright.....long hours and some jewelers did not make their booth fee
  • Wow! I'm not sure what to say. someone gave me a call and definitely said that Columbus is a higher-end show than Frederick. I live in Philadelphia and have walked the Rittenhouse Square show. It's an amazing show and it would be a great experience to be part of it. It's considered to be very prestigious and is in the most expensive part of town. But I don't actually know anything about sales at the show. I hope you hear back from some people about it! Best, Emily
  • I'm having the same dilemma but in between Columbus and Rittenhouse square, open to any advise!!

  • A question to any artist:

If you were to choose between the Columbus show and the Frederick show the first weekend of June, which would you choose (we've done Frederick a number of times and it's close to home for us, but it isn't what it used to be. We've never done a show in Columbus, but have heard it's a good market). Would love to hear your comments! Thanks,

    Emily & Rona
