Well it was good for me and I’m very grateful for that since I really needed a good show. I was beginning to get a little discouraged. It wasn’t good for others. One person near me zeroed and another didn’t make expenses. I talked to others who were not happy on Sunday morning however I wasn’t happy on Sunday morning. I didn’t start selling much of anything until about 2:00 on Sunday afternoon and then everything changed and I ended up with a nice profit.
There were definitely issues. Please promotors, resolve this year to make friends with the fire marshall and include them in your planning! This is the second time I have seen a fire marshall throw a monkey wrench into a show. This one consisted of 10 booth spaces that needed to be relocated early Saturday morning. Extreme kudos to the security staff who went above and beyond their job to do what they could to resolve the situation since they were the only ones on site. The layout of the show was rather convoluted and relocating 10 booths made it even worse.
Setup and breakdown were not bad for me but the layout was pretty tight so it might have gotten bad closer to the center of the show. There was plenty of space behind my booth. Porta-potties were sorely lacking (4 total) and at the opposite end of the show from me. The coffee shop near me was very gracious with their bathrooms. Artist parking was a long way away. According to some artists that I talked to there was some buy-sell there.
Compared to the museum show in Boca, this is a more mid-range show. I didn’t do well at the Boca museum show with mid-range work and high-end work didn’t seem to do well here. Attendance seemed reasonably good but very slow in the morning for both days. The weather on Saturday was chilly and grey. Sunday started out very cold (by Florida standards) but turned into a nice day.

Okay, I am Jewish and I am proud of it! But, that being said- I went to college( and now reside) in the midwest many, many years ago because I wanted to escape the privleged New Jersey upbringing I was used to- the sense of entitlement that spewed from everyones mouths- any religon is guilty of this, wherever you live..I love the midwest...We do not raise our prices in certain zipcodes in order to lower them...every sale is met with different circumstances...and collectors get 10% off every time...when at the Las Olas art show many years ago, a gentleman offered us $900 for an $1800 piece- I quickly asked him what he did for a living-"I'm a Doctor" he said- I said "how would you feel if I came to your office, you treated me, sent me a bill and I sent you half the money for your service? Because that is what you are doing to me" It was probably the greatest line I have ever had for this situation...he turned purple and left my booth....religon had nothing to do with it...and I wasn't even in Boca Raton....at Artigras, I will toast with Nels and Ellen, and my hubby, Bob with Mogen David(( MT. Veiter, Nels,sp?)eat Matzo ball soup, gefilte fish with horseradish, pot roast, candied yams and an Entemann cake...selling is selling, and mazel tov!!!!!!
Thank you Barry. And of course you can always stay with us, the cat will probably sleep on top of you, but he does that with all the gifted artists that stay with us.
This has been an exhausting thread. First, I came home from golf tonite and saw the continuing stream from Barbara. God bless ya! Get a hobby child. Quit picking on us Norwegians. Had sushi, had sake. But to clean the brain, I went home saw Barry's post and said ,"ah, an honest man, who can tell it like it is." Much refreshed from that ,I went further into the refrigerator and found the following list of ingredients which made my day better, so I could properly respond in a properly way, and maybe even a little PC, you know that stuff can grow on you just like a good foot rash. So, I immediately took a can of frozen limeade out of the freezer. I then took a blender out and filled it to the top with ice. I then emptied the contents of the rest of my Patron tequila into it. Satisfied by how the ice had melted, I added four ounzes of Grand Marnier, about six ounces of OJ, and the rest was sweet and sour mix. Salted half the glass, poured it all in and sucked down the entire contents in less than 10 seconds. We down here call that a top shelf margarita. Life was even better, than before I went to sushi. What a week. First, I get juried out of Cedar Key along with Salvador (thanks, Lu) Dali. Then I become the second worst becoming of the Third Reich because I dared to give out basic info about Boca shows. What part of the thread did you miss out on? (Barbara, et al. who I may have offended). I will repeat again for those of you who are not good on recent history, (which means ,read the thread from beginning to now) I tried to give basic info to those of you who may not be familiar with the Boca market. I used bold strokes, maybe I wasn't PC, but I really don't worry about that, to tell newbies what they might expect before they innocently plucked down $300-$400 a booth fee for that market. Nothing against ya, Barbara, but I will take my 37 years of success against your five years any day of the week. Let's see who is standing ,say five years from now. I just told it like it was--which is the beauty of this site. So, all you winey little PC threaders just crawl back into where ever you came from--and when you can offer some MEANINGFUL INFO--jump right on in. Because so far, I have seen none of that. All I have seen is little sniping at my ankles. Guess what, Norwegians have been bit by bigger than you, and laughed to ,tell about it later.
Which reminds me of a great Lena and Ollie joke. Can't wait to hear the scandinavian Pcs come out about this one.
Anyways, Lena and Ollie are driving to the Twin Cities. Ollie reaches over, while driving, and strokes Lena's thigh. Lena murmers, "Ollie, you can go further if you want." Ollie replies, "OK we'll drive to Duluth." Aloha, everyone, I hope you all have much success this weekend.
Nowhere do I see Nels suggesting to all females that they should have a cup of tea and calm down. He said it to you, but, he could have said it to me. I don't think gender had anything to do with it.
Holly, I understand where Nels is coming from and I, too, see and agree with Barbara, about a certain stereotype. I just don't think Nels meant it that way. I've spent time with Nels. I would know if he was bigoted.
