Beaux Arts- what to expect

I am doing the Beaux Arts Show in Miami next month and since there was nothing about it on the AFI site, I am throwing it out to see if anyone has done this show in the past and what to expect. It's been a long time since I have done a show in Miami and with all the end of the year blogs about the economy being terrible and nobody venturing far from home, I'm wondering if this is a good show to do. I would appreciate the heads up....

  • Thank you for all the insight- seems like its a toss up out there- nothing like getting into this business when its at its low ebb- but hey- I've done alright and life is good-- so I'm going to hang on-- go to Miami- but maybe not Orlando- one in Florida this season seems ok to me- one of these days I can get a mobile and trek down there in style without the overhead of hotels and the buying of food- I have seen what many of you guys are capable of making at a show and I have heart that I can do it too- might take time and luck and some rejection but it will all work out somehow- I'm hopefully optimystic for 2011. Happy Holidays to all
  • Well here is a positive  response/ I have done this show for a long time and it is just fine for sales each year/ not blow-out great ;takes some work-especially the south florida haggle technique- and noone controls weather. At every show-each year I exhibit I have different results- for 30 years there is no guarantee no matter what show it is- but the odds are that all works out fine-a handfull of good sales out of a crowd of 5,000 - 150,000.  But the last thing I do is travel long distance for one show(my drive to Beaux is 5 hours- if the road trip is smooth) that is maxed for us. U asked about Osceola- isn't it in Feb and beaux is beginning of Jan.  There were blogs on that one- I participated once -which is rare for us- good awards, good people running the show, artists taken care of royally, no crowds-few sales- -- Fair winds
  • Like  much else in Florida, It's a "used to be" show. I haven't heard anything positive about it in years.

  • Phillip is right, the show had gotten too big with some questionable art.  There has been an improvement the last couple of years as they tightened up on the quality.  Hopefully that is continuing.

The weather has been very weird for this festival over the years but the festival is earlier this year so maybe that will help.  Last year if you didn't get wet on Saturday, you froze on Sunday.

This year, it says dogs aren't allowed, my dog is not happy, she enjoyed last year's festival.  Guess I am going alone this year.

  •  If you are traveling very far and are not doing a few shows back to back i would think more than twice about this show.  It's a usta be good show that has fallen into a rut that they don't seem to interested in getting out of. The last time i did it, about four years or so ago it wos just disinterested dog walkers. And this was before the economy tanked.  Of course there are always exceptions. Maybe you would be one of those.
