Atlanta Fall show?

I went back to the blog posts between August and November and could not find a review on the Atlanta Fall show in Piedmont Park. Could have sworn there was one.

We did not hear good things about it, but that may be based on incomplete info. We were just about to pay the entry fee when I noticed how much extra the corner fee and electric fee was. This show will need powerful fans at that time of the year. We are balking at the expense and may cancel unless we hear from someone who had a decent show there last year. This would be a stand alone show since we have an open schedule on the weekends previous to and following this show. Comments welcome.

  • I did this show all of the first three years. The first year, I had a very good show and I attribute the success of that year to the fact that I had not exhibited in ATL for about 10 years and had a good, altho old, list that brought out my collectors. The second year, the show was better laid out and load out was hugely improved over the first year. My sales the second year were down a bit, but still good. Last year I had very slow sales until the last half hour when a previous collector from 15 years ago came and bought two big paintings.
Julie and staff do a good job with the show but Piedmont Park is notorious for difficult set up and takedown logistics. But they do the best they can. Parking is a good hike of several blocks away, altho free. I've decided to give this show a rest this year and will instead try a new show in Wichita KS on the same weekend. The crowds for the ATL show are not huge but generally enough people that are sophisticated art buyers.
  • Bill - I found the Fall show to be much better in terms of sales than the Dogwood Festival. In the Fall it seems the people there were only there to look at art. At the Dogwood, I don't know what people were there for. I know you did pretty well at Dogwood, but I was disappointed. I did 3 times the sales at the Fall show, but others around me did not do so well. In a nutshell, I would go back, but the date was changed to conflict with Rittenhouse Square in Philly.
  • Also, I think a visit to their website, and a look over last year's exhibitors is pretty impressive that you'd be in good company.
  • Yes, Bill. Here is the link to the post by Michael Wommack: http://www.artfairinsiders.com/profiles/blogs/atlanta-arts-festival...

I have heard only good things about the show. You might contact Michael for more details. I believe Ginny Herzog (a member here) has been a regular participant. C.L. Cunningham reported in last week (she lives in the area) that Atlanta wasn't a very good market for fine art, but I'm wondering if she may be a victim of the "prophet her own town" syndrome.

Julie Tepp, who organizes the event, is a "certified festival planner", and formerly was involved with the Dogwood Festival. I think this show has all the bells and whistles for a good event.
