Aside from the rain, what did you think of the show Tuesday? That was the first time I have not increased my profits from the previous year. I'm not sure I understand your "Thank goodness for wholesale comment" unless you, too, sell to some of the Lake City shops from your left-overs!! 'Nuff said about Pagosa Springs. Since I do sell to shops regularly in Creede and Lake City, I would like to find a show in the southern Colorado area that I could use to supplement the income a bit. Any suggestions?
hahaha...we spent all day yesterday drying out from Lake City. Blecchhh. I have done Pagosa Springs 4th of july which always seems to turn out to be too many days, and then it is just average...and we did the Wyndham thing last year and it was terrible. is there another one? Thank goodness for wholesale.
I feel as if I have been eavesdropping on your conversations. I had googled the art show in Woodland Park when I encountered your discussion of it and other small shows in Colorado. I have done the Lake City Arts and Craft Festival for a number of years, and I agree that it is generally a good show. Yesterday, however, we were rained out and had to break down in the rain and hail. Not a great experience. Do you know anything about the Pagosa Springs show?
Here are some I would skip. Of course I have only been doing shows in Co for 2 years, before that in Oregon. The economy is terrible there, don't even bother with anything. I have not been to Castle Rock yet or Co Springs.
Glenwood Springs Strawberry days or whatever its called
Salida Art Festival
Breck mountain Festivals, not awful but just too much work for what you get (3 days!) and expensive
Buena Vista Gold Rush The first year was great and then last year was HORRIBLE
Any shows in Cortez
Moab (UT) art festival on memorial day. Maybe that was just me though.
A one day show that is good is in Lake City, just google it , I can't remember what it is called. It is on a TUESDAY in July so you wouldn't think it would be good...but it is.
hi, would love to read your skip it lists. i like 1 day shows in los alamos nm re fuller lodge and la arts council. also like estes park, sept. will you do castle rock again? im debating. wind and cement. thanks for any suggestions. how is the colo springs college show in dec?
I just did the Rio Grande/Albuquerque show. The second worst show in 34 years in the biz for me. Some people were happy with their sales. Ruth Gore and her crew do a great job of advertising, booth layout, artist amenities, etc. It just wasn't my weekend. The NM economy is hurting. I haven't heard anything about the new indoor show in Las Cruces last weekend.
Castle Rock - too many booths, but sales can be worth the drive if you live 6-8 hours away or so.
I did the august Evergreen. Is that the best one? I just signed up for the Artist tour site yesterday and discovered some shows I wouldn't have otherwise. The Durango fall show I did last year, they have moved it from Main Street, which apparently pissed off alot of people, but I did OK.
Since we are on the NM border...I try to avoid any thing north of Denver...although maybe next year.
Do you know of anything in NM? They seem pretty protective of their own down there.
You guys are so nice...hope I meet up with you sometime.
Jacqueline gave you the same info as I would: go to the Colorado Artist Tour website, spend $10 and get a comprehensive list of almost every CO show, plus a few from out of state. Which Evergreen show did you do - July or August? There also very small shows in CO, so I suggest you check out: Nederland, Winter Park, Windsor. The Breck shows are pricey, with no refunds, three days and no guarantee of a corner booth if you want one.
The fall Durango show: I'm guessing that would be the best of all of them; I believe the setup is on Main St., with a quad booth arrangement, whereas the others are in the park, which isn't a good venue.
