I read in John Leben's recent blog about this year's show that you pay attention to posts on AFI.
So, you probably saw a couple of mentions about the spaces in the rear of the park which are mulched along the narrow sidewalk with narrow paasage for patrons between the booths on both sides.
If I understand correctly, there is room to move the booths back away from the edge of the sidewalk.
Would that not be a better solution than the way it is now.
Artists back there suffer, because the crowds are thick in the sidewalk and are pushing thru. Most artists' booths dont get a good looking at (which kills sales) because the crowds are moving on.
It is hard enough to get into your finely juried show. But when one gets in, I would hope they would be on an equal footing with everybody else there to make sales.
The people in front have a big advantage over those in the back.
See if you could remedy that problem for next year.
I hope we get some feedback from someone on your fine committee.
Hopefully waiting, Nels Johnson. Just a simple request.

I have done Winter Park Autumn from that back row and it wasn't that bad. But then Winter Park Autumn is not as heavily attended as WPSAF. However, the following year I got a space, close to but not on the street and sales were much better for me.
Well Larry, they obviously did not eliminate them or we would not be talking about the current situation.
I thought Winter Park had eliminated the bad spaces and added them to the street spaces which now goes past the end of the park, and charged an extra $100 for the booth fee. That was a year or two before they went with ZAPP, the year after the last time I did the show. I think maybe 2006.

Good for you Alison. I still find it odd that nobody has chimed in about the conditions on that back row.
I'm going to start a new blog on breaking down vs. not breaking down, leaving early etc. Can we then leave this valuable post alone and on topic.
Keep eating those twinkies and getting your sugar high, John.
Every artist has a right to make a decision like I did when they feel there work is endangered.
There was no disrespect going on. In fact there were not many sales going on.
Why dont you put your efforts into making a great image and spend less time slammiing somebody.
BTW, that is last you are going to hear from me. Got better things to do.
When weather threatens, there are many things we have to consider in making that decision to tear down. Over the years that I have been doing shows, I have agonized at times at what I should do. I must admit that I have have made all the choices at one time or another. After driving 5 hours and staying a a hotel I didn't set up at all for a 1 day show because it was raining hard and threats of tornados and severe weather were in the area. The weather cleared after a couple hours. Several times I have torn completely down, only to set everything up again the next day. I have a heavy tent with weights and a heavy display. Yet a couple years ago I was completely wiped out (tent and display, art was out of the tent) by a light weight tent with no weights. Their art was concrete stepping stones and garden statues which rolled up in their tent with the wind. The next morning, we found our tent down the street with their tent rolled up inside. My point is, we all have the right to decide if and when to pack up if weather threatens. I was at Bartow and I packed up after the show on Saturday. I only had 2 small sales, one of only three shows in 16 years that I didn't make booth fee. Yes I lost money at this show and it bites! It was not an easy decision, but with glass art, it was the right decision for me and I would hope no artist would critisize me for making that decision.
BTW. This post was over the tight spaces and poor sales for artists on the back rows.
Curiously most of you have commented about me at other shows w/o chiming in on the germane subject at hand.
I was hoping to get some change going so that condition does not persist.
Interesting, not one artist on those rows has chimed in, and of course ditto for the Winter Park Show committee.
I guess we have a bunch of ya who are afraid to post, think it is going to hurt your chances for getting back in. Too bad you are afraid to speak up on a very relevant subject.
One of the big problems on AFI is most of ya never stick to the subject at hand.
Like I said, it is nice to know I have certain people watching my movements so closely.
Gee Nancy, I got called off wait list to Vero Beach and promptly notified Apollo Beach which was the right thing to do. Oh gee, should I have stayed at Apollo and maybe make $1K or go to Vero and do much better. Gosh, what's a guy to do. It was all valid, and any of you in my shoes would have made similar choice.
Nice to know you are keeping such a close eye on me.
As to Bartow, I will stand my ground, I worried for the safety of my booth, saw lots of wind damage, that is an individual call for each artist, so don't be slamming me over my decision.
Nope, not slamming anyone, just teasing. yes, my friends are always surprised when I hug trees but really want to pay my own way. So confusing to want to conserve in a gimme world. I'm very conflicted.
