So, I received notification that I was not accepted to a small local show. It was my first show ever and I was in this show three times. It's not a huge sales show. But it is fun nonetheless and about only 5 minutes from my home. But not being accepted this time feels like a kick in the gut...
I even did a poster for the Holiday show last year!

I have been an exhibitor at a large, popular Christmas show in Columbiana, Ohio for more than 15 years. This year, the promoter told me she didn't know I was coming back, even though I had the emails indicating I would be there. Talk about a "kick in the gut?"
She told me she assigned my booth to another exhibitor and offered me a booth she knew I could not accept.
There's something going on with this popular show, now that I'm out I have heard from many vendors the same thing happened to them. I would like an honest answer why I'm out. I've been exhibiting for 23 years and have heard just about everything - I think !
It's a nice show, there's no denying. What happened to any loyalty to exhibitors? How about promoters honestly telling exhibitors who ask? Exhibiting cannot be personal, this is business. I'm moving on to other shows and wish them luck with their show. Everything happens for a reason :)
Oh and I didn't mean it was you that did that!
Could be one of those. I feel I need to be a little careful here because of certain connections.
And yes, I guess it's new people thing for I did the show three times in a row...
Well Suzanne... I was at Maple & Main in Sylvania and Crosby and the University of Toledo Alumni show both in Toledo. Was it any one of those?
I know that hurts. A local show where they know you seems so personal when you don't get in. But probably, it was just to have some new people. This happened to me this summer. I was wait-listed for the show. Was I surprised when I heard from a friend that they accepted an artist who didn't jury and called the week before the show asking to participate and was let in at the last minute. I believe you might have been at that show Scott. Maybe I'm wrong, but I found that rather unorthodox.
That has happened to me at a few shows also. Get accepted into the show one year, wait list another year, accepted again for a couple of years then wait list again. All depends on who is doig the jurying.
Hi Scott- I agree with Pat. Sometimes show jurors or managers just want to change some things so people see something new. I've seen your work and it is great and we were very happy to have you at the WSAF this year! This is one of those, it is not about you, but about how fairs go. Best.
It was my first show ever accepted and did it two times after that...
