3 seasons of booth evolution.

3 years ago I made the leap to drop jewelry entirely and focus on just glass.  My first season I tried to work with displays that had been the basis for my jewelry booth... I painted the wood white so the colors of the glass would show up and came up with a start that left patrons snowblind, although I didn't think of it that way until I looked back at the pictures.

Last season I invested in chrome shelving to give me more depth (the white shelves were 8 inches deep) and to break up the white.  By the end of the season I had found light green fabric and . created curtains to allow me to raise the walls without taking in the background view of whomever was next to me. .  I was getting complements about the cool, spa-like feel of the booth but I wasn't done.  The wire shelves were a pain to setup, worse to tear down, and difficult because even with plastic tops things liked to fall off and through.

For this season I invested again (and gave the chrome shelves a good home) and bought wood folding bookshelves.   They take up less room in my car, go up and down far easier and look much nicer.  To see pictures of this evolution check out my blog post at

My next steps (hopefully complete before my next show in 3 weeks) are

1) a smaller folding bookshelf to use as a "desk"

2) higher chairs (hidden behind the tall shelf on the right)

3) final work on the curtains to make them fit properly

4) hiding the weights at the front of the tent.  The curtains hide the back weights.

If I get all of the done for the next show I may be able to focus on just glass!  For the first time I feel like the end of my booth evolution might be in site!

  • My curtains are hung by loops I sewed into the back and shower curtain hooks.  They don't show in the picture due to the magic of photoshop.

For my next rod I am looking at curtains that have a "rod pocket" to be strung by bungie cord from end to end.

  • Amy, it was so helpful to me to see your final set up. I bought 6 curtain panels but don't know how to hang them because the bars in the easy up are not straight. Please tell me how you hung your drapes. I don't know why my name isn't showing. It's Joan Pinkus.

  • Janet - I agree and that is the plan.  I just started working in framed hanging pieces so I didn't have much stock.  As it is the big piece on the left sold and the piece on the right is actually my sign. My next show is in 2 weeks and I plan to have many more pieces with me that can hang and fill in when something sells.

  • Amy- The final booth is looking good! I have one suggestion, make a few large pieces to hang on your back wall. The back wall is your primary "showcase", put it to use! Good luck!

  • Thanks Jacki, I like it too.
  • Amy, you saved the best for last.  I really like your booth.  It comes across sharp!

  • Great evolution to see Amy.    I sometimes think those with 2D have an easier time - propanels, flip bin and a selling station and you're done.   With 3D work though there are far more options and needs.   Its a fine line between getting something that looks good, works well and is moderate on time for set up.

  • homedecoratorscollection.com .  If they have a store in your area order it at the store and they won't charge shipping.

  • Amy, I really enjoyed seeing how your booth developed! After last weekend, my custom-made walnut shelves are officially irrepairably broken, and I'm looking for shelves that can fold up or are modular. Would you mind sharing where you found your shelves? Thanks!

  • Thanks for the idea.  The folding shelves come in one that is the same style but the top is 14x14... it will be a perfect match.  I'm ordering it tonight, just wanted to go to the store I got it from and get a look at what 14x14 feels like first. I'll turn it so the opening faces me and use the shelves for bags, clipboard and cards and my water bottle!  If it doesn't look like it will work I'll look at the Pro Panel.
