Part 1 of 2 Rio Azul Chocolate Pot - Real vs. Replica: This original chocolate container from Rio Azul was a major early Classic Maya site along the banks of the Rio Azul River. About A.D. 385, the Rio Azul region was conquered and the city founded by Tikal. The area is around 170 Km2 and was structured as a feudal state where nobility lived in farms around the city. The elaborate complexes and amazing artifacts suggest a city with a heavy proportion of aristocratic families and retainers. It's most notable feature among its almost 5000 structures are its richly decorated tombs. This world-renown pot with a screw-top lid is considered the most notable find.
